From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

This weekend, September 1-4, GalCiv 2 Lead Developer, Cari Begle (CariElf) and UI Designer/Stardock Art Director Paul Boyer (Mormegil) will be at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia.  They will each be participating in a number of panel discussions over the course of the weekend and will field questions from both fans and aspiring game developers and artists.  If you're going to be in the Atlanta area this holiday weekend, this is your chance to meet two of the people who made your favorite game possible!

Here are the panels they will be participating in.

LOL, well, when we're not doing the panels, we'll probably be spending most of our time wandering around.  I'm planning on checking out as many of the Game panels as I can.

Wait!! ... you mean her surname isn't really Elf?

Guys, what are we gonna do about those tattoos?
on Aug 30, 2006
Elves have last names too.

You East Coasters with your Elvish last names go to bed way too early for those of us who live on the West Coast. In my case, it's also a bit expensive to fly out to Georgia.

I am hoping, then, that the panel presenters will please also post their discussions on-line, so that those of us who choose not to attend can still participate. I know I have some solid, first-hand views on the topic of "3D" vs. "Traditional" art. I could write the book on that.

I am so glad I decided, on a whim, to check the GC2 web site this morning -- from my hotel room at the Hyatt, where we are staying for Dragon*Con 2006.

I very much enjoyed the panels... they were the highlight of my stay at the convention. Both Cari and Paul are friendly, have a wonderful sense of humor, and simply good company.

A big thanks to all the Stardock personnel who attended. It was great fun!

Cheers!

*sigh* I was there. I probably passed them in the halls. I have been working on my application for an MBA program, and not on the Galciv2 site...
I found out I missed them this morning, when I was paging through the convention guide and Cari's name jumped out at me!

Ah well, maybe next time...

Well, I never got to see them after all, despite finding out about it on Friday.

Between my regular health issues, massive computer problems, and a touch of food poisoning, I only made it to one panel all weekend (the Mythbusters one on Sunday); and then we got a call from Angie's mother late Sunday night that one of our cats, G'Kar, was lying on our kitchen floor unresponsive, meaning that instead of spending Monday frantically trying to cram every last bit of the con in, we spent it rushing home to take G'Kar to the Emergency Room.

The good news there is that the vet says that he is likely to make a full recovery, at least.

Oh, well. I was, at least, able to get out most nights to do the scene and take pictures (some of which I've posted to My Flickr account). The other good thing to come out of D*C 2006 for me was that finally, after three years of mucking around with electroluminescent ribbons and tape and such, I came up with a costume idea worthy of them when I used 14 feet of red electroluminescent wiring under white gauze wrap to give myself a glowing and pulsing circulatory system on my arms. It expecially looked good when I went into the dark places at night, like the drum circles and the concerts and dances.

So who did do the voice ?
on Sep 19, 2006
Kristin Hatcher, who also hosts the PowerUser TV interviews. IIRC, she also handled the editing, additional campaign story elements, and apparently a wide variety of other tasks on GalCiv2.
