Only 1400 bugs to go....
Published on October 3, 2006 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Think that RC1 wasn't even close to ready for release?  Well, turns out that contrary to previous Microsoft statements, there will be a second full Release Candidate made available for testing.  Vista RC2 will be made available to testers this coming Friday.  This will be numbered build 5743, staying within the 5700 range, reserved for the eventual RTM copy.

Reports from Microsoft say that the current bug count in RC1 is down to 1400 bugs, but they have to hit 500 or lower before the final build can be packaged and sent to manufacturing.

Oh goody, I will just love to have a new OS that has 500 bugs. Joy Joy..
One positive aspect of Vista coming out will be MAYBE the ridiculous amount of Vista walls, skins, themes, icons and other general garbage may subside.

I'm getting really tired of burning more DVD's.

So... 500 bugs or less for final release, eh? I think that's a little ridiculous. What was XP's bug count upon release?

only 500 bugs.

Just a little friendly word to those who think this is a lot. The version of XP you're using probably has far more than 500 bugs. When you take into consideration that Windows has MILLIONS of lines of code, 500 bugs is a pittance, and keep in mind there are large parts of Vista that were re-written from the ground up. Also, those 500 bugs will very likely be things you'll never see, if they are allowed to go as a known issue then they are infrequently encountered defects and therefore not show stoppers.

I'm running 5728 currently.. The "limited" RC1 Beta.. I'd say it's around the same as 5600 though to be honest (the first RC1).. All I am unhappy about is my Logitech MX5000 not working properly. Meaning it's USB Bluetooth Hub still doesn't work. However, even if Logitech doesn't update by Vistas RTM, I'll still buy it. I'm convinced it's a far superior OS to any others I've used before. Windows, Mac or Linux based.

I hope my computer can handle RC2. RC1 refused to install. All the betas worked flawlessly.

Also, you can download the .iso's and mount them on a virtual drive instead of buring to DVD's/ordering. It's legal, and you can do it free with Deamon tools. Deamon tools kinda sucks... but its free. Alcohol 120% is payware, but much better .

Yeah, I'll have to do that for RC2.. I'm out of DVDs..

My Bro has issues with RC1. He has a Raedon 9800 and a 24-Bit Audigy 2 Card.. Wonder if that's your issue as well?...

Luckily, I haven't had any issues with my setup.. Though I'm rated a "1" since my 9100 on-board doesn't support Aero. Otherwise, I'd be a 4.

I had a 3.8 I think for the Beta right before RC1.

I use nVidia GeForce FX 5200, 1 GB Ram... umm its not a horrible computer, and its pretty good. I'll try out RC2 this Friday and hope it works lol.

I have 3 DVD's left and I plan to use them to backup other data, so virtual drives are nice. Just 4 (almost 3) more days to go until I can test this sucker out .
