From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Vote early, vote often
Published on December 7, 2006 By Zoomba In GalCiv II News

As 2006 winds down, the gaming press begins to look back on the year that was, and tries to determine which games stood out as the best of their class.  GameSpy is one of the first of the major media sites to put up their annual Gamers' Choice polls, where any gamer can go and vote for their favorite games of the year across 16 categories (7 of which are reserved for PC Genres).  Our game, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords has been nominated in two events:

  • PC Strategy (Non-RTS)

  • PC Overall

That's right, we're a contender for the Gamers' Choice PC Game of the Year!

Galactic Civilizations II received a 4.5 star rating and the Editor's Choice award from GameSpy, and has an 87% overall rating on GameRankings.com based on review scores from 49 media outlets, making it one of the best rated PC games of 2006.  In the Non-RTS Strategy category we're up against games like DEFCON, Heroes of Might & Magic V and Caesar IV.  All very solid titles, but we're confident that the fine, intelligent folks here at GalCiv2.com know which one truly deserves to be crowned king!

Voting is open until December 18th, so get moving and vote!  Be sure to tell anyone you know that enjoyed Galactic Civilizations II this year, to head over to GameSpy and vote too!

A note on voting:

You must have a GameSpy account and be logged in for your vote to count.  This is to discourage ballot stuffing by individual users.

Gal Civ II Nominated for GameSpy Game of the Year Awards!

Damn right too!

Created an account with them just to vote for this.

Trying to discourage ballot stuffers... pfft, they didn't count of me having spare time to kill before class!
on Dec 07, 2006
Luckily, I already have an account. Lets do this!

Sorry. but they are not getting my email address.

Interesting. I can't see GC2 winning the best PC game award, there's too many games with very large fanbases and much more hype.

But I'd be suprised if it doesn't win in the strategy (non-rts) category.

Sorry. but they are not getting my email address.

Make a new one on gmail, hotmail, or one of the other free providers to use on sites like game spy. That way, you don't need to worry about annoying spam.

Gal Civ 11 deserves both of those awards. Also, ign accounts work too.

ign accounts work too

Yeah, but IGN is far worse than Gamespy. You actually need to be a member to use the quote function on their forums.....

on Dec 07, 2006
There is regular membership which still can't use quote. You have to pay for that..lol. Anyways I was just saying if you have a ign account you wont need the gamespy.
on Dec 07, 2006
Oh, my bad. I thought you were saying that he should sign up for an IGN membership instead.

Medieval 2 disappointed me to no end. All the others were mediocre. The ONLY games I play right now are GalCiv2 and Company of Heroes, so both of them got my vote.

On the overall PC game of the year, it was a hard call, but eventually I chose GalCiv 2. Sure, CoH rocks and all, but GalCiv 2 deserves much more credit, IMO.
