I'm running out of catchy taglines
Published on February 1, 2007 By Zoomba In GalCiv II News

So the game is "Gold" and your mouse finger is getting that galactic genocidal twitch again.  You want to subjugate races, forge treaties, establish your trade empire and deploy your newly designed "Vicious Knid" Class destroyer against your opponents.  Alas, you'll have to wait a bit longer before satisfying your inner megalomaniac, and for the time being draw your Galactic Civilizations sustenance from these two succulent previews from GameShark and GamingNexus.

Tyler Sager took a shot at Dark Avatar for the GamingNexus preview.  It's a nice 1 page synopsis of what you can expect to see when you either download your final copy from Stardock Central, or pick up Gold Edition in stores later this month.  Tyler suggests that Dark Avatar is going to be just as much of a time-eater as the original game.  Heck, he leads off the preview with "One... more... turn..."

"Like each Stardock expansion, Dark Avatar also comes with a slew of technical tweaks and balances, continuing to hone the series into one of the best strategy franchises ever to grace the PC. I’m just drooling over this title, and the beta didn’t even give me a chance to see the full-blown campaign or additional scenarios in action. Stardock is currently busy polishing up the last bits of code, but we should see this gaming gem in the next few weeks via Totalgaming.net’s online service."

Next our friends at GameShark, who gave Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, the runner-up spot in their Game of the Year awards, have penned a few words of their own on how they feel about the pre-release build they've been playing is shaping up. Writer William Abner definitely has high praise for us in this preview.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is arguably the best turn-based "4X" game ever made. Stardock’s epic strategy game proved that there’s still room for a great turn-based design within an industry full of real-time instant gratification. With stellar AI, sharp visuals, and excellent gameplay, GalCiv II was the complete sequel. Now, the company is trying to add even goodies to the package with the upcoming expansion: Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar.

Hopefully these previews will help tide you over until February 14th!

For as much as I enjoy stuff about GalCiv, I think I'm going to lay off the previews. Since the game is now gold, I doubt there will be a whole lot of new info, and reading all these previews with two more weeks left is pure torture. It's like going out every five minutes on Christmas Eve to recount the number of presents under the tree!

Congrats! So, when exactly *can* we subjugate races, forge treaties, establish our trade empire and deploy our newly designed "Vicious Knid" Class destroyer against our opponents? When will you let the first "pre-orderers" download?
on Feb 01, 2007
PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE would someone in charge PLEASE answer the 100's of questions regarding WHEN preorders can start receiving the PREORDER we paid for??? An exact day would be sufficient... I'm not tryin to be rude or anti Stardock here but it was promised and promoted that preorders would get the final release long before the official release....

So StarDock Answer the Question already!@!!!!!!!!!

I don't recall anyone promising preorders would get the game "long" before release, first of all. Second of all, while the early availability is a nice bonus for those of us that are enthusiastic about the game, I don't think bitching about it is going to make it available any faster. My guess is they either aren't sure themselves when it'll be available or that they have their reasons for not giving an exact date (like maintaining some flexibility to assess bandwidth usage). They have said those who preordered earlier will get the game earlier, but beyond that I'd suggest being patient and waiting for an announcement.

Will the people who pre-ordered DA in the box get the "Gold Edition" version?
on Feb 01, 2007
Wait, what in the blazes is going on here? A gold edition that combines the Galciv2 Dread lords with DA for better value? That doesn't usually happen until a while. Does that mean the original buyers of Galkciv2 got a bad deal?
on Feb 01, 2007
The gold edition contains the original game and DA, or you can just buy DA alone. DA by itself is only available through Stardock's online store.

Enough with the previews! Just get the game ready for release!

Check the comment section on the "Gone Gold" post, he mentions something about it there.

When will the pre-order people get it?

I think I read Brad in another thread say that they were going to do a "phased" rollout for the pre-order folks in order of the date we signed up.

What I'm curious about now is whether we'll get email telling us to go to SDC or should we just keep trying.

Such previews only serve to whet my appitite more. But on the bright side, it does give me more time to finish the Dread Lords Campaign.

But honestly, I hope if not now, but in a furture release that a new campaign starts which culminates into throwing the Drengin on their collective rears!

Hi Zoomba!
You say your running out of catchy taglines huh? Well how about using the ones the aliens use in the DA expansion and from the original? Thats if you have not already used them all before..(I don't come here often so anything looks "NEW" to me).

Or look for stuff on the internet. It is the worlds biggest database, even if 3/4 of it is full of stuff...
