From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

There's no question that the summer months are slow ones.  Most of us would rather be on vacation, or just outside enjoying the weather than sitting at our PCs indoors.  Submissions to the galleries slow, forums get a little stagnant and overall things around the Internet get pretty quiet.  Well, we here at WinCustomize want you to keep coming back, to forget about the sun and summer road trips and spend your lazy summer days here with us!  You see, we'd just miss you all terribly if you went off and had fun without us, and showing us vacation photos later, no matter how good they are, is NOT "just like being there."

So, as a way to entice you back to the site, and away from the pool, sipping those fancy drinks with the little umbrellas in them, I'm offering up a preview of some of our more noteworthy summer content.  We've got some fun stuff in the pipeline that should appeal to a wide variety of folks, from skinners to regular users, there's something for everybody.  So in the next few months you can expect:

  • Skinning Contests!
I'm going to toss out two names here, and no real details just to get you thinking about them.  Maxthon and Xion.  We'll have more details around each of them soon, but I wanted to let you know, so if you were a skinner of either application, you might want to start some prep work now.  I think the prizes we have setup for one of the contests will definitely get people excited.  But like I said, no details yet aside from those two contests are coming soon.  These aren't like the mini community challenges either, they're going to be much bigger
  • WinCustomize Wiki
Since I last mentioned it about a month or so ago, several members of the community (namely CerebroJD, BebiBulma and SKOriginals) have volunteered their time and done a fantastic job of building up the foundation of the wiki.  The goal is to make this the place people go to for information on any number of skinning products.  Already we have product information, tutorials, links to outside help resources and more.  We're getting very close to launching it for the public, so expect more news on that soon.
  • WC Live!  The Live Call-In Show for the Skinning Community
No, this isn't dead, it's just simmering on a back burner for the moment.  We did a test-run with the software and a handful of users to see how it worked, and the results were good.  The plan is to run the first show this summer, see how the reaction is, and determine if we should do more.  Right now we're trying to find some interesting guests that would make people want to listen (Because honestly, who here wants to hear Island Dog and I chat for an hour?) so if you have any suggestions, or if you'd be interested in participating, leave a comment below.  I think this could be a really fun feature for the community.

And of course on top of all of that will be the regular content you've grown accustomed to in the past year; polls, news, product tidbits, skinner of the week, walkthroughs, video features and more.  Oh, and we also are planning on doing our first readership survey, something beyond the one-off poll questions, so keep an eye out for that too.

Just because it's summer, doesn't mean we're all sitting around taking it easy!
