Please Take The 2007 Demographic Survey

As WinCustomize grows in popularity, we find ourselves often in a position where we need to have some data on who exactly our audience is.  How old are you?  How many PCs are in your household?  Do you have an innie or an outtie?  These questions and more are coming up more and more in internal discussions when dealing with things like advertising on the site, and partnerships for larger projects like the GUI Champs.  While we ask some of these sorts of questions via the weekly polls, those questions are stand-alone and we can't tie results between polls to get meaningful data.

This is the first of what will hopefully be an annual demographics survey.  It's a 14 question survey, hosted by SurveyMonkey, and requires no personally identifiable information be entered.  It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to complete.

At the end of the survey, there is an optional field to enter your WinCustomize nickname (not real name, not email, but the name that appears by any forum post or skin comment on the site).  If you enter your nickname, you will be entered in a random drawing for a $50.00 USD cash prize.

Help us out, take the survey, and make sure everyone you know on the site fills it out too.  Information like this is VERY important to us in making sure we're taking the site in the right direction.  Thank you all in advance for your time and answers.

You've got to be kidding. That socalled survey was nothing more than the typical consumer prespam scam. "Fill out this easy survey and tell us the information we can sell to companies who want to offer you GREAT DEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, this weekend only, on your good credit and only for a select number of valued customers." How much do I spend on computer upgrades and how often? What am I planning on purchasing in the immediate future? How old am I and what do I do for a living? And a chance at $50 for everyone who includes their e-mail address so the direct targeting can begin. I seriously thought you guys were better than this. Color me disappointed.

Of course, each WinCustomize nickname has an attached email address . . .

. . . but I doubt that's the objective. This sort of survey is typically done to identify the demographics of the site for the purpose of advertising, not for stuffing your personal email account with spam. Stardock wants to know what ads will be the most profitable to run here. Because, you know, that's how the site makes money.
