From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Huzzah!

We've completed our work for the night and the forums are back up and running.  You'll notice a number of visual changes, and you'll hopefully notice improved speed and general performance.

Please post any issues you run into here.  We've done a lot of testing this past week and tonight, but if something slipped through we want to know so it can be fixed quickly.

Thank you all for your patience.

In Opera, the Reply box seems OK, but the quote function doesn't seem to be working as expected--I tried selecting just

I don't like the smaller default font, either.

But I got the whole post.

Tried posting a reply with a quote and got a hang-up. Testing plain typing in Opera. (edit) Now the post I thought was destroyed is visible. Sure wish Edit include a button to delete the post.

Well, the reply box is really small at the bottom of the screen...

And also, the pictures in the Databank (for each section) aren't displaying, and I cannot view the Game Examples link.

Hm. I'm having no problem with the reply box, it's as large as it has always been. Same fontsize, too.

The My Replies list no longer seems to track whether I've visited since the last post in a thread. All items appear bold all the time.

Microscopic white text on Black Background....capillaries bursting...eyes bleeding... I wouldnt have thought it possible that the forums could have been any more difficult to read than they already were, but the even smaller text seems to have done the trick. I do apreciate Stardock's continued efforts to improve the community experience though. Some visual issues I was having when I viewed the site in Opera seem to be fixed, and performance seems decent.

For what it's worth I'm seeing the tiny reply box as well.

When I enlarge the editor it then moves to the top left of the thread (which in long threads can be a great deal of scrolling up to find).

If it helps:

IE Version: 6.0.2900.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300

running on Windows XP.

It took me 3 tries before an edited reply would post. Also, the post has no formatting. It looks like one long sentence. Line feeds or returns don't show up in the edited post, but they do show in the reply box.

Oooh oooh the site finaly let me in. Are we being vetted as it is now fine Took forever to load n the first page from the main page, but once that loaded the rest are super fast

One thing i am not liking (and so far its the only one that annoys me) is that the 'sticky' posts are inverted by date with the newest one at the bottom? Looks strange and means updates are easily overlooked. Other than that a nice upgrade

I have a normal size reply box now, which is nice. The small font is still very annoying though. I tried changing it with the dropdown list, which inserted some code into the reply for the text formatting. But what I type in the box is not what I chose, so it's still hard to read as I type. The site is definitely faster, so good job on that aspect. Edit: Well, changing the font didn't change the font. And my last edit didn't work.

I have tried twice to edit that last post, and both times it failed to save the changes.

And the font didn't change either.

Ditto what Binjack said... this forum was already difficult to read, even before the update, with this white-on-black text. I know the devs are probably thinking "space theme" but that's a terrible combination for legibility, and it's the reason you don't often see it used any more.

I suppose that won't change, but the new smaller default font makes it even harder to read, especially on higher res desktops (I'm using 1600x1200). This font is tinier than in any other forum I visit. The message text is also displayed in a narrower box than before. Adding a break after "Member No." would help, but the overall impression is that the actual forum posts are being marginalized, while too much screen real estate is taken up with navigation, avatars, MV medals, and other visual clutter. How about giving some importance to the message text, which is the only reason we come here?

The server speed seems much better, but the new "look" is making my eyes bleed.

P.S. the reply box looks wide enough to me (Firefox).

And when I posted that last message, all the carriage returns were removed from #27.

This site still needs some tweaks, for sure.
