From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Huzzah!

We've completed our work for the night and the forums are back up and running.  You'll notice a number of visual changes, and you'll hopefully notice improved speed and general performance.

Please post any issues you run into here.  We've done a lot of testing this past week and tonight, but if something slipped through we want to know so it can be fixed quickly.

Items not functioning at this moment:

  1. Recent Posts List on the Sidebar
  2. Featured Articles

Fixes are coming for these tomorrow.  For now, it's getting on towards 5am and we want to get some sleep

Thank you all for your patience.

My previous post (a few minutes ago) is not showing up yet. Also, after I leave this article/comments, and return from the main page, I am seeing this for page number at the bottom of page 1... posting this at 10:49 am pst

If you're getting the tiny editor box, I need the following info:

  1. URL
  2. Browser & Version
  3. OS
  4. Is it for a new post or editing a post?

We're having a hell of a time reproducing the problem, so any additional info you can provide will help.

Ive had the tiny box all morning on every page of the forum. Both for new posts and editing a post. Using IE7 and XP Pro.

As for the slow loading times that people are having problems with. I had the same problem this morning on every thread I went to but after about 15 minutes of being on the forums it cleared up and hasnt happened since.

We know about the speed issues, they're a server problem.  We have a pretty good idea where the problem is and that's being worked on right now.

Editing error - appears to have naffed up my formatting - esp. line breaks.
on Feb 18, 2008

If you dont tell us what url you are experiencing an issue on, along with your browser and browser version there is nothing we can do to solve any issues.

Please, take the extra two seconds to type out that information so we can quickly address issues.

My previous two replies earlier are apparently lost...somewhere between pages 2 and 3.

Re: Editing error - appears to have naffed up my formatting - esp. line breaks. WWW Link Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Note that when entering the url in this post, the URL formatting box was functional, but incorrectly positioned at the very top left of the forum window. Editing is actually worse when I try to edit in the Wincustomize Browser, I get that reduced window, referenced in post #98 of this thread. This also scrunched up on editing

Why only 25 posts per page instead of 50? Takes so much longer now to fully read all the replies to the thread, waiting for each page to load.

I agree with Brad, spiffy badges for subscribers would be cool (extra perk).

FYI - the above post (#104) is an example of loss of formatting resulting from editing. I tried and confirmed that I can introduce line breaks successfully by hand editing, though there is a sizeable delay in the result showing.
