I want a 30" monitor...
Published on March 25, 2008 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Lets look at your PC capabilities a bit more closely.  Last week I asked about whether you used a desktop or a laptop as your main machine.  Desktops won out easily.  This week lets talk screen resolutions.  For authors of wallpapers, DX themes, skins, icons and almost every other category in skinning, screen resolutions can be a massive pain in the rear.  What looks fantastic at 1600x1200 might look like garbage or simply be unusable at 1024x768.  At the same time, users with widescreen monitors can have a hard time finding content that doesn't look stretched on their monitor.

So, to start with, I'd like to hear from everyone on whether they use a more regular standard aspect rations like 4:3 and 5:4, or if they go in for widescreen (16:9, 16:10).

Results, as usual, next week.

I use widescreen I love all of the space you get. I could never go back to 4:3 again. I just need to get a second one now so I can run dual monitors.

I use a standard monitor, 1280x1024. I tried to vote, but nothing seemed to happen (the total votes did not go up). Do I need to subscribe to WinCustomize in order to participate in polls?

I couldn't vote on this -- my main monitor is a 20" 1280x1024, and the left monitor is a 20" 1400x900 widescreen.

Yes - in fact, I forgot to mention that I haven't been able to vote on any other polls. I tried to vote on the Desktop vs. Laptop poll, but I had the same problem as I said above.

Widescreen FTW. 1920x1200 on this 24" and 1280x800 on my 15.4 laptop. Now if only there was a "Widescreen" category in the wallpapers section to sort by.....finding widescreen wallpapers is really difficult unless you know where to look (namely, interfacelift and dA). Especially for the larger sizes (for my 24").

1920x1200 24" Vista desktop, 1680x1050 22" XP desktop, 1280x800 15.4" Vista laptop

Simple choice for me: 19" 5:4 display has more pixels than a 19" 16:10 display.

Running a flat screen at 1440 by 1050 (I think). So much for "standard" screen. More people use wide!
on Mar 25, 2008
I use a 24" wide (16:10) at a resolution 1920x1200, and also three 19" standard (5:4) at a resolution 3840x1024. Finding walls for the 24 is no big deal, there are a lot of 1920 res. walls available, but trying to find walls three 19's for the 3840 res. is a pain in the rear. Though I have found a few places to accommodate me though the choices are not always the best.

Definetely widescreen, best for watching movies hehe and well because that's the only one I have hehe.

I have dual widescreen monitors (1680x1050) on my desktop and a widescreen laptop (1900x1200). Haven't done the normal 4:3 monitor in ages (except at work, where they're still living in the past ) Can't imagine going back to non widescreen monitors, the extra screen space comes in handy. Wallpapers are sometimes a bit of an issue, but I get some from digital blasphemy, and they work well.

I read through the complete LFG archives this weekend. Richard may be the best character ever.
No doubt, no doubt. What a great way to spend your weekend, eh? I freakin' love that comic.

Running 19" 1440x900 flat screen.

22" 1680 X 1050. Love the extra "real estate" of the widescreen! I still have a 19" 1280 X 1040, but I can't look at it anymore...
