One place to get all of your premium content
Published on April 25, 2008 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

As some of you probably have noticed, we've begun moving some of our Premium Suites over to MyColors.  And if you've purchased the Pirate or Magic Desktop Premium Suites recently, you'll soon be receiving (if you haven't already) an email explaining that your purchase has been upgraded to the MyColors version of the suite, which have been tested to work in both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

What does this mean for Premium Suites overall?  Well, they're being replaced entirely by MyColors Themes.  We've begun the process of upgrading older themes such as Omega to MyColors, upgrading the skins and icons to work under Windows Vista.

As older suites are upgraded, if you purchased within a certain time window, you will receive a free upgrade, otherwise there will be a small upgrade fee.  In the case of Omega, it's any orders placed since November 30th, 2007 up to the point where the suite was upgraded to MyColors.  If you purchased prior to November 30th, you can upgrade for just $4.95.  The upgrade price is there because the suite was XP only and has been upgraded for Vista.

Want to keep track of which of our Premium Suites have been upgraded to MyColors?  Keep an eye on the Inspired Themes list.

The biggest advantage to users with this switch is now if we upgrade a theme, or fix a bug later on, it can be automatically distributed to all users via the MyColors distribution tool.

I see UniverseMetal isn't on the Inspired Themes list. A pity - it's still one of the all-time great suites. But Logika is on the list, so that's something.

Well...one thing I can see already is that this MyColors thing has put an end to creating docks for any future premium skins that come out since they are all encrypted now....at least for us unofficial creators of docks. Well....it was fun while it lasted. Guess I'll have to resort to using screenshots which will limited the amount of docks I can do for a skin.

We'll probably be updating all of them, but the ones on the list are just the ones that we have scheduled so far.

We have o do that since we have IP related themes (can't let those loose in the wild).  People are free to request assets for Inspired themes that they buy to make docks for.  However, just because thy request, doesn't mean it will be provided.

Webgizmos, check out what Brad said:
You know, I think we could make the images available, we'd just not include the UIS file.

- Install MyColors
- Open MyColors and install Magic/Pirate
That's great... *if* it works. I've installed MyColors, then opened it up. Attempted to enter my registration info... and it fails! So I cannot "install Magic" (and therefore cannot continue to any of the remaining steps). It appears that MyColors uses the same new technology as Impulse, and therefore I cannot use it.

Anyway, I will stick with what I have and wait for some kind Master skinner to deliver a product as before. Then, I will buy.

Well put.

What is really going to happen is you're going to see the same content delivered in lots and lots of different ways.

For example, I think you'll see more and more subscriber skins being made that will come from the MyColors project. You'll see the pieces broken up into various Master skins and so on.

MyColors is targeting users who simply want a single cohesive, high quality suite that works together. Once it's applied, the components go into your various directories so if you have Object Desktop, you can mix and match to your heart's content.  But if you're not into that sort of thing, MyColors will take care of the basics for you.

Not practical if you want to "match" the skin.

You know, I think we could make the images available, we'd just not include the UIS file.

That would be cool...guess we'll have to take the wait and see how tis will work approach.

You did use the serial for MyColors Magic right, and not a serial for the Premium Suite?

To the comments about the ability to download the skin but not apply.  That is possible as well.  After a theme downloads, you get an option to "apply theme".  You can just say "no" that you do not wish to apply the theme.  I often do that when downloading multiple mycolors themes, as I do not want each of them to apply.

Well, the email I received about the Magic suite being upgraded to use MyColors only had one serial number in it, and that's the one I entered (and used the email address which it was sent to - the only one I believe my Stardock accounts are linked to).
