From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Today we announced that the subscription price for WinCustomize was going to go up $10/year from $20 to $30.  Now, of course we had to come up with a good justification for this, something that would fool the sheep of the forums into believing we did this for their own good and that they're getting the better end of the deal.

But, just between you and me?  Complete BS.

As some of you may know, today's Angie's birthday, so as a gift the company bought her a new car...

So that would have probably accounted for a $2.50 increase per subscription, but some of us were looking at that car and asked "What about us?"  After some haggling and stomping of feet and numerous rude gestures, we sold upper management on the idea of the Stardock Porsche Fleet...

Each, of course, added $2.50 to the unit cost of a WinCustomize subscription.

That's why the subscription is now $10 more per year.  Gotta pay for the fancy cars!

Now, I know some of you are probably getting worked up about this turn of events, especially considering how we told you it was really about the free skins, and not the Porsche fleet.  To calm your nerves, here's a serene picture of some geese...

That's right, here at Stardock HQ we have a fleet of Porsches AND cute little baby geese!

No kidding.

Huh! Now wouldn't the time been much better used sorting out the coding pigeon issues... cos quite frankly, I don't fancy yer chances of training those geese to get the job done.

I feel so bad about helping stir things up, I went and bought Stardock a new, environmentally friendly company truck. Saves more gas for the cars!

Somebody has to get upset about something. Had it not been for something silly to address the increase then there would have been somebody ranting about the $10 difference: "I have to spend another 83 cents a month? It isn't like they have spend money to ship it!! I will never buy another thing from Stardock or...or ANYBODY...EVER!!" Stardock has come a long way over the years and I have always had the feeling that they truly value their customers and and consider us more like "family" than an anonymous end user. My impression is that they work very hard to deliver the absolute best products and service they can and that they take great pride in what they do. The nature of the post only reinforced that feeling; they feel close enough to me (or us as community) to have some fun. It is like saying to your friend (or anybody you're comfortable with) a "you are a poopy head" (only not quite this polite); you don't mean it, it is just in fun. If you took offense to it then that's your issue, not the folks at Stardock.

Well said... these thoughts pretty much reflect my own, that Stardock is small enough to treat its customers with a caring and friendly manner, yet big enough to produce quality products that help enhance the PC lives of countless people around the world. Quite often, companies who manage to break into the 'world' market care nothing of their customers at all once the sale is made... not so with Stardock.
