From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Stardock is proud to announce the release of IconPackager 4. IconPackager allows users to easily, and safely, change nearly all of the Windows icons at once using icon "packages".  IconPackager 4 has been through quite the overhaul, one of which is the most noticeable is the completely new user interface.

There are hundreds of these packages available for download on WinCustomize.   Creating or modifying an icon pack is as simple as drag and dropping your own icons.  Users of Windows Vista will certainly appreciate the feature updates in IconPackager 4.

Some of these include:

  1. Completely new UI.
  2. The ability to upscale pre-Vista icons.
  3. Vista users can set Live Folder icons independently of the icon package.
  4. Recoloring feature to easily change icon colors on-the-fly.

A free trial download is available.  IconPackager 4 is available for $19.95, and is part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements.   Existing users of IconPackager can upgrade for $9.95.

It was working fine at first, then within 10 minutes I was no longer able to recolor my icons. The color just won't change. The light to dark feature works but the hugh, saturation and luminance doesn't do ANYTHING to the icon.
I'm having a similar problem here. I am able to recolor the icons in the Preview Tab, and get them exactly to my liking but when I go to apply it, it for some reason or another will not change anything and just keep the icons at the status quo. Ditto for the filters: I'm able to change the filter effects in the Preview Tab but again after I Apply Changes, it doesn't do anything. Don't know if it has anything to do with the fact I am running XP or not, as it seems most of the people here do not appear to be experiencing this same problem, so I can only assume that the difference is they are probably running Vista. Dunno. Also, I have 2 gigs of RAM and a 512 meg video card, so I should definitely have enough system resources. Perhaps somebody from Stardock has something they can offer? Something I can try or what have you? .-= The Reaper Man =-.

only diff is that the UI has been changed to suit a 4 year old.

Suits this (50) 4 year old just fine... not just the 'pre-school' UI , but the great changes/improvements under the hood. For old farts like me (fossils who never saw a calculator at school, much less a computer), it's a blessing to have 'fogey' friendly software that's easy to use

I particularly like the new 'easier-to-use' PackageBuilder, it saves packages more efficiently and is much friendlier to less (skinning) savvy users than previous incarnations. I always had issues with saving packages in prior editions...I had ideas on the package structure but IP 2 and 3 most often saw it differently to me.

I also like the intergated drag and drop function when right clicking to change icons for known file types... however, I would also like to see this include program exe files so IP changes various desktop shortcuts at the same time as shell icons. Being able to include desktop shortcuts directly in PackageBuilder would also be a fantastic & welcome addition.

Hello, I also am now having the problem where IP 4 is not recoloring the icons. It was working last night.....but not this morning. The light to dark feature works. I have XP Home with SP2. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I recall somewhere that some serial numbers changed... if you are having difficulties registering products, you can get an updated list via SDC> tools> look up serial number. Your current serial no's should then arrive via the email account you registered with.

Hope this helps.

Had to go back to 3.99.149 as some icons within the system; mainly MS Office icons, IE on the menu and various others FF2, HP update, CursorXP reverted to the default icon in the MyColors package. I was unable to change them, or get a change to stick and I have grown accustomed to them over the years. Running XP Pro SP3.
