From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

This week's poll is about a potential feature that's being debated internally for the next major update to WinCustomize.  Since we're gearing up for the GUI Champs, and a major feature of the competition has always been forming skinning teams, we wanted to know if something like that would be a good addition to WinCustomize proper.

Should WinCustomize add a "Group" feature to allow skinners to affiliate themselves with one another, and to work together and post skins under a team label?

Vote in the poll.  And share how you'd like such a system to work in the comments below.

My concerns would be how to avoid this becoming one of those elitist issues we've been accused of in the past.
I could see tghis being an issue... I say go for it, See what happens and adjust the rules from there on. I think Lantec has the right idea. Especially on the team size issue.

where is the edit button, i can't correct my typos

Oh I would suggest a requirement on what the actual finished product is... I would hate to see 5 team members all working on a Windowblind and that's it.. though i am sure they would see the redundancy in that. Though as my ex would always say "hey, you never know".
and how come there was an edit button after this post and not my others?

I don't think size of a group is an issue.

Things I'd like to see:
  • Group "owners"
  • Secondary "Owner" (in case the owner got flaky and split)
  • Ability to belong to more than one group
  • Ability to retire a group
  • Ability for members to block someone from joining

my suggestions......1.) Have WC supply storage space for shared "team" graphics to be posted with team access via FTP2.) Have team logo below avatar like Monkey-lizard wizop thing and Stardock Support thing.3.) Require WC Membership to belong to a team.4.) Set Maximum team size to promote proliferation.5.) No Religious or Political teams.

I'm for all of that....except with the size-limit....that'd need to be open-ended for the Community Skin suites of such scale as Heavy Equipment....

3.) Require WC Membership to belong to a team.
why? ...i know it's only an idea but if this happend then "some(few.., one more than none)" good and talented people wont get into any team.

Frankly, I'd expect it would be more than just a few Tycus......but if the site's gonna provide the storage/communication space as well as coding to make it all work it should be compensated. I see it as another incentive item that can be added to the membership program.

It wouldn't mean that you and some friend skinners couldn't set up shop at DA and work together and then submit skins under one name/user ID

The problem I would see with requiring WC membership to belong to a team is that you will then end up with some people who are on teams that aren't able to spend as much time skinning as their teammates. Which in turn could end up causing problems within the teams.

That's the team's problem, not WCs.
