From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

One of the great features of SkinStudio 5 was the ability to directly import XP .msstyle themes and convert them into WindowBlinds skins, giving you access to the many .msstyle themes out there, but allowing you to retain the ease and power of using WindowBlinds.  Unfortunately, that feature isn't present in SkinStudio 6.  But never fear, there is actually a free, stand-alone tool to do just that!

Skinstudio is much better & importing .msstyle without an option to edit is of what use?
on Jun 20, 2008
SKS6 does not have an import function so you need a separate tool.  SKS5 did the import internally.

For the record.. SKS6 and SKS5 can exist on the same PC so you can use sks 5 if it's still available through stardock central.

I'm still trying to get a definite answer, but that may no longer be true, NT

I've gotten a few reports that the latest beta of SKS6 *asks* you to uninstall SKS5 ... don't know if that is mandatory or not.

Haven't tried installing the latest SKS6 beta yet .. don't want to bork something until I'm sure SKS6 will do everything that SKS5 would do ... still might need SKS5 for a couple of skins I'm working on.

Me neither.. if the latest update causes me to have to uninstall sks5 then it's a deal breaker. Me needs me SKS5 for me security.

5.01.049 still available here via SDC

5 & 6 still compatible - no change as far as I can tell from when it was 1st posted they could reside together

only thing is: if you like to open the skin to edit via the WB configure, then the 1st that was installed and associated with the 'edit' button in WB becomes the default - you don't get a choice and no way to change from making it use one and start using the other except for uninstalling both, rebooting, install 5 or 6, reboot = it becomes default - install the other

I had both installed - the edit button opened 5 - uninstalling 5 made the button go dead, 6 was still installed but didn't take over - poster on a previous post said reinstalling 6 made it the default

If you update/install 6 via Impulse it will uninstall 5

Impulse shows an update for SKS6 6.10a[b].032 ... don't know the date it came out; Impulse keeps putting the current date as Latest Update date, but I think it's been out for a week or so and followed 6.00.003 .. which is where I'm still at.

SDC shows SKS6 at 6.10a[b].026 dated 5-22-08

See this thread WWW Link for more info

I'm hoping we can get some 'official' word ... waiting to hear back from Mike with Support and I'll ask.

I show SKS6 6.10a(.28 in stardock central (no update available)with an update showing in Impulse. 6.10a(.032
but I aint touching it.

I show SKS5 5.01.49 in stardock central with it not available through impulse.

Both work fine together on my system currently (occasional crash but thats pretty typical).
