From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Well, 819 of you have voted, and the results are pretty clear; most are pretty jazzed about the upcoming release of Windows Vista with 658 of you either saying you were excited about the release, or saying you intended to upgrade when you upgrade your computer.

Here are the complete results:

Q: What is your current impression of Windows Vista?
Will upgrade to it when I get a new PC probably.   366  (44.69%)
I am excited to get it.   292  (35.65%)
   I have a negative/bad opinion of it.   161  (19.66%)

If you have any additional thoughts about last week's Vista poll, post them to the comments section for this article.

This week's poll is more WC targeted:  What new content would you like to see on WinCustomize?

Results will be posted next Monday.

I have the Vista beta in a dual boot config and will upgrade someday. For what I use my computer fornow though, XP works:

It doesn't need more hard drive space
It doesn't need more memory to run well
It doesn't need the extra securtity
It's paid for!

I also wonder how long it will be before most of the features of Vista are reproduced for XP users. Did anyone else here first try ObjectBar and Windowblinds on Win3.1 to get the Win95 look and feel?

Can't say I remember them ever being on Win3.1 ...though I DID run Calmira on 3.11 to emulate 98, 2000 and ultimately XP...

Just one question... Who can vote in the polls? It seems that I cannot, so I'm wondering if that's a boo-boo, or if I'm no longer able to vote.

Everyone should be able to vote in the polls. There aren't any restrictions that I can see. Are you just seeing the results and no option to vote?

Crap . . Thanks Jafo. I was thinking using OB in Win95 to emulate XP. Getting old and forgetting stuff stinks . . but it's better than the alternative.

I saw only the results for the poll my first pass. Had to reload to get voting rights.

{I felt pretty good about it though . .. you know . .. earning the right and everything   }

I'd like the ability to vote please. Teh previous polls ahs allowed me to vote multiple times, now I'm blocked off...

There's something flaky with the page refresh. Do shift-refresh a few times to force a complete reload.

Another security feature!

It's like trying to delete something in Vista. "Are you sure?" "Are you an admin?" "Are you super-duper sure?"

I see the new poll, but only the results. I didn't get to vote.

Refresh a few times, you should get a vote option.

I couldn't even get it to install, let alone using it.

I'll upgrade to Vista in year or two, and that's only because most of XP software won't run on Vista, so we'll all need to wait for patches and stuff, and that takes some time. It was the same deal when XP was released.

I hate seeing these #'s....out of 819, almost 20% didn't like it; if it were more like 5 or 10% maybe, but that large of a percentage is troubling - hope I'm wrong!
on Jul 17, 2006
Heh. I can't vote either.
