I wouldn't say that "I am pretty jazzed about the upcoming release of Windows Vista" just because I clicked on the "I will probably upgrade when I buy a new computer"-button.

That to me really just means that by the time I buy a new computer, Vista will already be pre-installed on all new machines.

I'm in the 20% who have a negative impression of Vista. This is based on my understanding that Microsoft intends to incorporate some form of open ended copy protection for third party applications. What I have been following are articles discussing the links between the media industry and Microsoft in attempting to put a "lock" on media files in an attempt to stop illegal downloading of music and movies. I can emphasize with the media industry, a little bit but not a whole lot, but I don't want my operating system evolving into some sort of police state where my activities are continually being monitored. I have the MS validation patch on my computer now and I have no problem with it. However, I resent it automatically "calling in" every time I start my computer. I also am suspicious of programs that can suddenly lock me out or change the way I use certain programs after I have purchased them. And then there is the issue of companies installing hidden code such as what Sony was doing. Frankly I do not trust any of these entitities with my computer and the information that is contained on it. There are too many examples of promises of privacy and usage rights being broken. Until there is some definite clarity from Microsoft on what their policy is concerning the final control over their program by the end user I am sticking with XP. And a good firewall that tells me who is calling out and a virus program that tells me who is trying to change the registry.

Re: the new poll ...I would have liked the option to choose more than one answer, as I think Tutes and competitions are a great idea.

@ the frog not being able to vote.

...conspiracy!!

Eric: Well, the poll isn't to decide what will and what wont be added in the future, the purpose more is to figure out what people want the most so we can focus a bit more time and effort on that. I'll bug t-man about the poll troubles later today.

Well, none of the poll options gives my own take, so :

I will buy it, but not until the software I use (regularly) positively requires it, which is precisely what I did with XP, although XP's (compared to 98SE) robustness and reliability shortened that timescale somewhat. Like others have said, there ain't much wrong with XP for me, so, if it ain't bust...
