From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

The forum refresh, that first came to the main Stardock and Galactic Civilizations 2 forums has made its way to WinCustomize.com today.  After a great deal of feedback from users, the forums now more closely resemble other web forums in style and function.

We also hope that these new forums will alleviate some of the technical issues users had been experiencing in the past.  If you have any comments/feedback on the new forums, please leave them in a comment here.

Some strange inconsistencies in the July Desktop post https://forums.wincustomize.com/?forumid=144&aid=122255#963992

Is there a specific way to post there now, or is this just leftovers from the change?

on Jul 21, 2006
In the past, I was one who always had problems accessing and especially posting in the forums. Load times were excruciatingly slow. But since the change, 99% of the time things are great. I do like the overall look and functionality of the change too. If there was anything I would like to see added it would be a "Mark as Read" feature in the "Tools" for individual forums.

Corky...I don't think so...more likely just the usual people having trouble posting images...like from their harddrive instead of from the net...

Jafo,

I was talking about the image size differences.

Both of my shots (as well as a majority of others) were full size in the post previous to the forum change, now some are smaller (almost thumbnail, for lack of a better term) and some are still full size.

I am wondering if it is based on the new code, and it's interaction with different hosting services? Or simply a new intention in the way the code will be handling the screenshots.

For my shots in that post, I can click on them and they will open in a new window which then allows zooming to full size when 'moused-over'.

The odd thing is that one time yesterday, my first shot was full size and the second shot was still in 'thumbnail' display. I am hosting both at ImageShack, and posted both the same way in that thread.

All I can say is this: "Well done!"

Figured I'd let some of the more serious issues get attention before I brought this issue up again.

I'm using Opera 9.01 and when I view a thread I see some images while others show up quickly and then "disappear" and some never show at all. In most cases a small blue square is left as a placeholder. I'm seeing the site's smileys but images posted linked to other internet sites seem to be the ones that don't display.

Here's an example of what I see.....

I managed to add a comment on one thread only to have it actually turn up on another instead. Due to the current lack of clear indication of what one has actually read or not I cannot find them again...though if anyone sees a comment by me on 2 different threads that is identical....that's the one...and it's obvious which was the wrong thread...

Jafo, as per usual please reply with the browser you used, the browser version and whether or not you were using advanced mode. I'll also need the link to the post you were attempting to reply to.
