That's a lot of pressing F5 on the download page

Mozilla is celebrating a very important milestone this week; the 200 millionth download of their open source web browser, Firefox.  This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Firefox had recently passed 15% of the US market.  Firefox, a branch of the main Mozilla browser, which has its roots in the old Netscape product line is mounting a serious challenge to the long-standing king-of-the-hill in the browser market space, Microsoft.  Already it has 39% of the market in Germany, and 24% in Australia.

200 Million downloads since the 1.0 launch is an impressive number.

200 Million downloads since the 1.0 launch is an impressive number.

If that includes people updating to newer vers then if I'm anything like vaguely average then that number is more like 40 or 50 Million.

Similar order of magnitude... [one less] but not so impressive...

Same 10 people clicking the download button 20 million times...

I'll not switch until they learn a lesson in consistancy.

Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2.0, Flock and Opera 9 are good browsers.

The key thing is that a person uses a browser and the browser does what the person wants it to. For compatibility sake with my school I use Internet Explorer 7 as Firefox starts to choke on some of the pages. I use Firefox over Flock when I have to download some Microsoft components as Firefox has the WGA Validator Plugin. I use Flock now as my main browser when I don't require a browser to the face the issues above.

Also, I got my complete non-tech savvy mother to use Opera Browser as it is easier for who to browse the internet and she likes using tabs. Plus it was easy to show how to adjust her bookmarks and other little tips, now she is browsing like a pro with Opera.

The lesson is...a personal computer is personal, use what you like.

FF blows them all away. I've tried them all, and I ALWAYS go back to Firefox for it's security, it's ease of use, and it's features.

I think that's an overstatement - IE7 and FF 1.5 are certainly comparable, though I cannot speak for Opera.
