From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Oh come Monday, it'll be alright... come Monday I'll be... serving up another poll!  Last week I tossed out the question of what version of Microsoft Windows you were currently running.  This one wasn't even close.  We received 400 responses exactly to this poll in the week it ran, and all but two of you are running a version of Windows XP, with more of you running Pro than Home Edition.  Just to satisfy your curiosity, here's the exact breakdown:

What version of Microsoft Windows are you running?
  Windows XP Professional 239   59.75%
  Windows XP Home 159 39.75%
  Windows 2000 2 0.5%
  Windows ME 0 0%
  Windows 9x 0 0%

Yup, not even close.  Not that it's all that big of a surprise considering most people here are power users to some degree since you all seem to be all about this UI customization fad I've been hearing about.

Ok, so this one doesn't offer up much chance for discussion since everyone here seems to be on essentially the same OS.  So... umm... what does everyone think about WinME?  I hear it's supposed to be the consumer OS!

This week's poll question is a follow-up of sorts:

What version of Windows Vista do you plan on upgrading to?

I'm not asking if you are going to upgrade immediately, but what version you will go for when you eventually do upgrade.  For details on each edition, see Paul Thurrott's Windows Vista Edition breakdown from late last year.

Results, as always, to be posted next Monday.

I did not vote, because I have x64 and that was not one of the options.

Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic , Windows Vista Home Premium, and Windows Vista Ultimate

It looks like you are missing the option I'll be looking at: Windows Vista Ultimate

Whichever version supports WB

Don't know the difference between the different 'versions'. Vista aint really on my agenda for future software purchases - I plan on sticking to XP for as long as possible.

I'll decide when I get a new computer, but for right now I put Home Premium. It all depends on whether my job will require the Business functions of Vista. In that case I will choose Ultimate. However, there is that other OS/computer manufacturer out there....

I would go with Vista Ultimate or Xp Pro 64 bit if there were support for X64 in most of the software and drivers........BUT there is NOT and I won't go with X64 anything until software makers and hardware mkers get their SH** together and get in the real world!!!!!

In the mean time I will stick with XP pro and stay there until they get the support for X64 mostly done!!!

I'll wait until they release Vista SP2, or 3.

Until apps stop running I'll stick with XP. Once I need something Vista only, I'll go with Ultimate.
