From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Just another manic Monday... wish it was Sunday... But since it's Monday, it's time for another poll here at your favorite Windows Customization site on the entire intarweb!  Last week we asked what version of Windows Vista you would be likely to upgrade to in the eventuality that you had to.  Yes, I know some of you intend to stick with WinXP for the next 30 years, but eventually everyone has to upgrade and that's what we were trying to capture.  In total, 268 of you responded, so between this week and the week before with 400 votes, it seems that our poll issues have been worked out.  As to what versions everyone wants, here are the numbers:

What version of Windows Vista will you eventually upgrade to?
  Windows Vista Starter 2  0.77%
Windows Vista Home Basic 12 4.48%
Windows Vista Home Premium 84 31.34%
  Windows Vista Business 6 2.24%
  Windows Vista Enterprise 3 1.12%
  Windows Vista Ultimate 161 60.07%

Seems most of you are going to shell out the big bucks for Vista Ultimate Edition, the granddaddy of Windows versions this time around, with the second largest chunk going for Home Premium.  Not a surprise really considering how many here are "power users"  I'm still waiting to see what the final price points will be myself before committing to anything.

So now onto this week's poll:

Which Non-Object Desktop app would you most like to see updated?  Is it a new version of ObjectDock, or maybe an update to Blog Navigator?  Let us know.

Results, as always, to be posted next Monday.

Definately ObjectDock. Still waiting for drag-to-launch.

Related to this week's poll, "which non-ObjectDesktop app would you most like to see updated?":

All the apps are so good, and I'd love any updates... but the one I anticipate most is for BLOG NAVIGATOR... Specifically, I'd like to see it become an *all-in-one* blog/RSS-feed, podcast and usenet news aggregator/browser.

Additional blog/RSS view modes should be supported, such as:
a - Detailed view
b - Detailed view with a preview pane
c - Blog View (simple top-to-bottom listing of posts; supporting CSS styling)
d - Newspaper View (multi-column display that looks like a real newspaper; CSS styling)
e - Webpage View (displays the page as it appears on the web, in a nested browser)

It would be nice if the Blog View and Newspaper View supported CSS styling so that we could control/tweak the way we want posts to appear.

I've posted a mock-up of how the various blog/RSS view modes, podcast mode and usenet reader might look here: Link

Looking forward to hearing some comments or suggestions.

For those of us that like a clean desktop and hence don't use ObjectDock, I'm thinking that an update to ObjectBar would be welcome. The updated version of WindowsFX is terrific so I'd let the gurus loose on ObjectBar. Easier customized menus that don't sit on the desktop appeal to me.

ObjectBar and RightClick are part of Object Desktop.  Looking for non-Object Desktop apps at the moment.

Right-click. Needs to have .png/transparency/perpixel support. And a better editor.

damn... you should add logon-studio to the list of non-od apps you should update. That hasn't had an update for ages... what happened to the talk of a new version thats supposed ot be coming out? I remember hearing somewhere that you guys were working on an update.

Im not going to get Windows Vista. Too bloated of an O/S. I know lots of people are going to say XP is also bloated but I beg to differ!

All I need is XP and WindowBlinds

People clicked Vista Ultimate because they think that makes them look cool. Get real, most people will have 'home'...

One of the reasons I bought object desktop was the object bar.

Updates of object dock are always welcome. This product is greatly under-rated and should be promoted further. Everybody that sees my dock wants to get the free version immediately.

------ My Comment ----- Stop jamming these polls down my throat. You made it so you can't go to the home page without having to do something not by choice but by your insistance to take part in something I would rather Not! ---- end of comment -------

Object Dock+ is my method of choice to organize my desktop and get work done. I haven't used the Windows desktop icons much, they're usually set on "hide", as I like a cleaner work area, for my taste, anyway. For me, Object Dock, paired with Windowblinds 5 (also still 4.6), just knits it all together for a clean and efficient interface. I can set docks on the side, a la Desktop X, to expand if and when I need a link, or they can be set to be just tabs at the top or bottom of the screen. I like to change my GUI and use different themes and styles...the combo of WB5 and Obj Dock, along with the uncountable .pngs and .icos out there, allow unlimited resources. The members here create the most stunning selection of PC enhancements anywhere I've seen. Yeah, Object Dock Plus, and its artists/coders/iconists would be a great focus here. Updates? Runs just fine as it is for me...

Id like to see Cursor xp stay on top of the new glass windows instead of going behind them all the time. (is that a non object desktop thing?)

Thanks

Agreed, cole! I love showing off my desktop to people, and having them ask where my taskbar is.

DocX, I only have that problem once in awhile. I think it was Zoomba that told me that it was a windows error, painting the layers incorrectly, so I'm not sure how much Stardock can do to fix it. They also go behind DesktopX widgets and objects. :-/
