From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Published on September 5, 2006 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

The holiday weekend shifted things a bit and I'm just now getting around to the weekly poll.  Last week, I asked who here was planning on participating in the GUI Championships, coming up later this month (expect some pretty exciting announcements in the next few weeks!).

Sadly, fewer of you than I had hoped indicated you would be making some sort of submission.  Here are the numbers:

Will you be competing in the 2006 GUI Championships?
Yes 45 20.09%
No 179 79.9%

I'm hoping, after you find out what's at stake for the top prize, that more of you will be motivated into competing.  But that's news for another week!

This week's poll is on which of the announced features for WinCustomize 2007 you're the most excited about.  Vote to the left as usual and check back next week for the results!

Oh the competition is still going to happen!  The official kick-off will be later this month    We're just working to nail down particulars on prizes and rules right now.

I got a quick question. Does the Skinnable UI (For Subscribers)your talking about refer to Wincustomize subscribers or Object Desktop subscribers. Hoping for Object Desktop subscribers!

I'm not too worried by the results. Only 224 people even took the poll. There are many more people who skin now, and more will probably come out just to participate in the contest.

Even if only 45 people submitted stuff, it would still be a pretty kickass GUI Champs.

Skinnable UI will be for WinCustomize subscribers.

...thats possibly because the poll is a tad intrusive. I'd prefer to come straight into WinCustomize and then take the poll.

....not to be stopped at the front door and questioned before I can even get in. [Which, incidentally ~doesn't work for me. I click anything on that poll and nothing happens. Cant even view the results.]

Never did like polls set up that way.

When did this start?
Is there another wincustomize I don't know about cause that's never happened to me?

If you log out & clear cookies, then come back to log in ...just after you submit username/password ...it's the very next screen you get.

Taking a poll should be an option ...not mandatory and in your face as it is now.

..Sorry Zoomba, just my feelings on the subject. Not overly miffed by it ...I can work around it.

It's a bug, that shouldn't be happening.  We've been trying to track down why since it doesn't seem to happen every time you login to the site.

What are the catergories? Do we know this yet?
on Sep 06, 2006
Pre-Announcment

The three contests will be WindowBlinds skins, Icon packages (with at least 55 icons), and wallpapers.

Thanks Z. Maybe I'll submit some walls. I was hoping Cursorxp would be a catergory. Oh well.
