From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Published on October 10, 2006 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Despite all the fanfare over the GUI Champs, life does go on here at WinCustomize.  So it's another week, and we're back again with another poll.  Last week I just wanted to take a poll to see whether or not the daily news that I've been posting to the front page has been worthwhile and enjoyed by you, the reader.  We got a lower vote turnout this week than usual, but that may be because the poll is no longer directly displayed on the front page.  111 of you voted, and it seems all but a handful of you are enjoying the news.  So for the 101 of you who like it, I'll just keep at it!  For the 10 of you who don't... well... sorry?

The numbers...

Do you enjoy the tech news posted to the front page of WC?
Yes 101 91%
No 10 9%

No real need for a graph for this one.

Now, on to the next week's question:
What is your level of participation in this years GUI Champs?

Results of course will be posted next week.

"What is your level of participation in this years GUI Champs?"

I download the better looking ones that accommodate my taste.

I'm not participating, nor downloading. But I'm still not ignoring it. I've simply been too busy.

tho I am only a downloading spectator. I was saddened to hear there will not be a "boxing for first prize" Podcast. I had anxiuosly been looking forward to this years Title bout.

Maybe I missed this explanation but why do we now have to click to another page for the actual vote, then once voted have to click back there again to see the results? It was nicer the way it was before where you could see the vote choices, and then the page would refresh and you'd see the results.

I too prefer the old way polls where handled
There's a poll question for you (Which poll format do you prefer, old or new?).

There were some users that were only seeing the poll when they logged on. It was flakey and I think this was the fix.

i recommend looking for another fix poll participation is down to 1/3?, no? i havn't voted since it moved, i don't notice it buried under there.

I had noticed no poll if I wasn't logged in either, which didn't matter to me. However I agree with DesignCaddy I don't really notice the poll the way it is now.
I only respond when its posted as a news story, and if that's the case then it should simply just be part of a news story.

There were technical issues behind putting the poll on a separate page.  Yes, it has driven down participation... but there are sound tech justifications behind the decision.

"umm . . boys . . it's broken and we can't figure it out."

"Hmmm . . that sounds like a technical justification."
