From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

To continue with the "Yay, Vista is here!" theme we have going the past few days, here's an article from bit-tech.net taking a look at Windows Vista and DirectX 10, and what it means for PC gaming.  The article looks at the architectural differences in DX10/Vista and what it likely means for games from both the developer and gamer perspective.  Overall, it is a very good primer on the changes to how Vista works with graphics hardware and how games should theoretically see improved performance.

The idea is that with Vista's new driver model, display model and revamped 3D APIs, no longer are hardware and game developers forced to work around a system that was never designed for real-time 3D rendering, with the capability almost being an afterthought slapped on the side.  Now, the process is streamlined and setup to take advantage of specialized hardware to accomplish specific tasks.

It's too bad that game makers aren't making games for PC's anymore and concentrating mainly on that X-Box360 and other idiot game consoles. I use to be a big PC gamer and never owned a game console but I can see the PC gaming industry go downhill and downhill fast. All of EA games this year have been horrible for the PC. Especially the sports ones like NHL07, Tigerwoods 07 and Madden 07. When Activision's Call Of Duty 3 game out, I was excited, then pissed off when it wasn't for the PC!

Let's face it, PC gaming is on the decline and new model drivers and 3D engines won't help! It's up to the game makers and by the looks of it, they couldn't care less about the PC users.
