From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Gee, welcome to the '90s Apple
Published on December 1, 2006 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Uusally around here, we talk about changing the look of your PC by changing through software like WindowBlinds.  One thing we rarely talk about because, well this is a Windows site, is skinning on the Macintosh.  ShapeShifter, a theming product from Mac software developer Unsanity cleared beta on its latest version, 2.4.  Usanity is one of several skinning applications available for Mac users.

While not yet as powerful WindowBlinds, it is a solid start for Mac users who are getting tired of the same old look.  If you've got a Mac that you want to spice up, head over to Unsanity and check it out now.

Note: this article was rewritten because the first story, which was written tongue-in-cheek, was taken far too seriously.

The article still has a subtitle that seems to say Apple is late to the party. I didn't get to apparently see the tongue-in-cheek version but I can understand people getting upset. You don't put a "joke" on the front page unless its April Fools Day or you put a disclaimer at the end of it to say it was all tongue-in-cheek. Otherwise you will get the reputation that no one can believe what is on the front page which is supposed to be news items.
This is of interest to skinning but should have been presented straight rather than trying to joke and minimize the reason you are presenting the information.

In the subtitle area I often place little joking comments regarding the news story. That will not change, and it seems when it's not a joke about Mac, everyone thinks it's OK.

The only time the news article is funny is usually on April 1st. It's to be expected.
If News Articles are now going to be "tungue in check", maybe you should have a news article letting everyone know that from now on to expect humorous or off beat articles.
For as long as I've come here the "Front Page news" has always been 100% prefessional, straight forward and non-humorous. This is why, I think, everyone took it the way they did (including me).

eh.

Wish I had seen the 1st, I coulda used a chuckle.

I have posted articles with humorous comments in the past, it's just not usually about Macs, which is a needlessly touchy subject.

I forget often that I take things less seriously in general than many do, especially when it comes to the "hot button" topics.  Lesson learned for me.

eh. woulda been better if the lesson had been learned from you.

Thought things had maybe mellowed out with the PC vs Mac junk so we could move on...

Hardly.....not when at every moment there is the chance for a 'my dad is bigger than your dad' argument...

It's probably somewhere between overly 'precious' and 'twee' to be lauding the 'three years', whatever that Macs may or may not have been skinning....particularly if it's through the naivete that MS 'skinning' started with the XP OS.

It didn't.

Re light-hearted NEWS content...why the heck not?  Last one I saw elsewhere was along the lines of 'Microsoft buys Firefox'...OK, so that, too had headless chickens running around saying 'the sky is falling', but really, people, to use the American vernacular....."lighten up".

Where's Snowman when he's around with the quip....."skinning is meant to be fun"?...

I find it hard to believe people can be so ignorant in this day of age

Oh really? I find it hard to believe some people can be so arrogant and thin skinned in this day of age! How about that!? I guess anything is possible! And whats with this "You People" crap! Posts like that are far more annoying than anything else. You need to get over yourself.
You are not the only person that reads these posts. You are not the center of the universe!

Zoomba...just because some people have no sense of humor you should NOT re-write articles. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what you wrote the first time. Its just not right that the many of the users here be denied your humor for the sake of a few that are so thin skinned. There are far more serious things happening in the world to be concerned about...your light hearted articles are welcome any time.

No wait!...maybe I should sue for damaging my sense of humor. And I suffer daily migraines now as well...and my back hurts too! Have you no shame Zoomba!

Zoomba, shake it off. Some people are so full of themselves they feel the need to run on the razors edge when it comes to the "right or wrong" thing. I think that they just need to get over it. I'm actually a little surprised at some of the comments from some of the people here towards this. Hmmmm. Either way, I personally think you're doing a fine job with the news and a little funny business here and there is kinda one of the things that helps create a little grey in the world.
on Dec 02, 2006
To be quite honest with you, Zoomba, I've always found your articles to be interesting and informative....regardless of whether there's a bit of tongue in cheek involved or not...

Sadly, I didn't get to read your original version, but I have no doubt that it was far from being offensive or inappropriate, and thus would hate to see you change writing style based on the narrow minded opinions of some who were either born without funny bones, due to a possible birth defect, or perhaps had them removed due to spoiling their enjoyment of being unhappy, too straight laced and humorless.

You no doubt will have noticed many of my replies to your posts (others too) contain much tongue in cheek.....why? Because life's too serious to be taken seriously, and if ya don't lighten up sometime yer gits grey n' wrinkly prematurely.....

I wholeheartedly agree with WebGizmos, don't change who or what you are to please anyone but yourself.....continue as you always have done, otherwise you're not being true to yourself.

Anyhow, Zoomba, I'll see ya later....I still got two cents ta spend so I'm off ta find another conspiracy theory, gov't coverup.....OS sh!t fight.
