From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

The holiday award season marches on!  This time it's our friends at 1Up.com that are asking for the votes of you, the gamer, to determine their top ranked games of 2006.  Again, Galactic Civilizations II is in the running for :

  • Best Strategy Game
  • Game of the Year!
The difference between 1Up and GameSpy is that the 1Up awards aren't broken down by platform, so when you're voting in the Best Strategy Game category, you're picking from the best strategy games released across ALL platforms in 2006.  We're being pitted against great games such as Company of Heroes, Disgea 2 for the PS2 and LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2 for the PC and 360).

For the Game of the Year category, we've been placed in the company of outstanding games like Gears of War (360), The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess (Wii) and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC, 360).  That's a very impressive list and we've made it to the final round.  So here I am again, asking everyone here to do their part in helping to make Gal Civ II the Strategy Game and Overall Game of the Year for 2006!

Voters from 1Up.com, Electronic Gaming Monthly and Games for Windows Magazine are all casting their ballots here.  This is a very prestigious Game of the Year competition and we need your help to win.

Go vote, get your friends to vote, bug your family to cast their ballots.  Spread the word far and wide to all the gamers you know!

Voted. Too bad Space Rangers 2 isn't on there (just started playing this weekend -- why oh why did I have to discover that gem during finals week?!) as IMHO it was easily the best game this year, with Galciv 2 being the best strategy game, by a long shot.

Done and done. Easily the best strategy AND game, of the year.
Now will the game stop beating me in the Campaign, Deception scenario, set to beginner difficulty? How embarrassing is that?

Yeah, I know, but the discrepancy in regional launch dates allows you to classify it as 2006. Gamespy allows you to vote for SR2 in their gamers choice awards.

Yeah, ever since I've started playing I've been telling pretty much everyone how awesome it is.

I wish Stardock could buy out that Russian developer and make a hybrid Galciv/SR game. Now that would be sweet, and would totally be in one of the top ten games ever made

I placed my vote for GC 2. How can you not vote for this game?
