We draw ever closer to the launch of Vista, and companies are racing to make sure they have versions of their software available for the new OS, at least in beta forum.  America On-Line released a beta of it's AIM 6 client last Friday.  The big update for 6.1.3.1 is that it loads under Windows Vista as well as 2000 and XP.  Other features added are group messaging, offline messaging and conversation logging.

I think it would have been better if AOL remained incompatible...with all operating systems.

Well, to all AOL lovers and haters, AOL also released AOL 9.0 VR, the full AOL client, which fully supports Vista.

I'd try AOL's IM out on Vista but... I use gaim. It's simple, free, has no ads, can connect to many IM networks, and has tabbed conversation windows. It's been so long since I last used AOL's AIM software. There's just nothing fancy with AIM that would make me go "Woah, cool!"

I have Vista RC2 on my laptop. I also installed the AOL V 9.0 VR on it as well. I was really shocked! It is the fasted AOL I have ever used, and fully supports Vista. I have not run into any glitches yet.

I still haven't put WB on the laptop yet....waiting for the final release for Vista.

I keep wanting to go back to GAIM but it just doesn't have the full functionality of each client service it connects to. It's ok in a pinch, but there is zero webcam support last i checked, shitty or no voice, and direct sends of files and pictures is spotty. It also doesn't allow you to get the full experience of WeeMe's and other MSN/yahoo stuff. (dunno if that's a plus or a minus for some)

I do agree though, for just typing to everyone with one program, it does that well. Aim with AIM ad hack is lovely, as is the Mess.be patch for MSN msgr.
