UPDATE:  If you can't make it to the developer chat but still want a shot at having your questions asked, you can sign on to our IRC chat and join #chatquestions early.  Just ask your question in the channel and I'll log it, and add it to the potential list for the dev chat Wednesday night!

This Wednesday, February 7th at 4pm PST / 7pm EST / midnight GMT we will be hosting a developer chat to answer questions about the upcoming release of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar, due for release this month.

If you'd like to join us, there are three ways to attend, so pick whichever is easiest for you:

  1. Log on with Stardock Central [Download]
If you have a Stardock.Net account, one of the easiest ways to attend the chat is by using the IRC application built into Stardock Central.  Just fire up SDC and click on the "Chat" link on the left-hand side of the screen.  Click "Connect" and once you're connected type "/join #galciv" (without the quotes) and you're there!

  2. Connect Using Your Favorite IRC Client
For those of you already versed in the arcane arts of Internet Relay Chat, you can join us by connecting to irc.stardock.com and then joining #galciv.

  3. Chat Via Your Web Browser
Your third and final option is to head on over to this webpage:
    http://www.communicationtube.net
Click on the IRC tab in the upper left corner, choose a nickname then type "irc.stardock.com:6667" (again, no quotes) into the HOST:port space and then login.  Once connected, select #GalCiv on the left menu and in a few moments you'll be ready to chat!

We highly recommend either using Stardock Central or a separate IRC Client (such as mIRC for Windows) as they'll allow you to also participate in the chat by submitting questions.

This chat will be driven largely by questions submitted you, the gamer. We'll have a second room setup called #chatquestions where you can ask whatever you want regarding Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar.  This room will be monitored by Yarlen and myself (Zoomba) and we'll pick the best questions asked and post them in #GalCiv for the developers to answer.

We look forward to you joining us this Wednesday in #GalCiv!

My bet- that the beta purchasers can DL that night...

Naw, you won't be able to download DA 1.50.057 till it's almost February 14th. ...Wait a minute, how did I know it's 1.50.057?

My SO is going to be happy that I'm getting the download before Valentine's Day. Then again, it means I will probably neglect her this weekend...hee hee hee hee hee.... If it's any consolation, I named the Torian leader after her.

I just got pwned by SD. Oh well. I was wondering if the release date being 1 week early on IGN was prophetic.

Glad to be so so wrong- as usual.

Makes me sorta regret getting EUIII to tide me over- don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but GC2 has given me more then even EUII did, and EUIII is not a big improvement.
(I'd still recommend it, I think it's a solid 8.5/10 game that will get Stardock-level support to make it 9.5/10 in six months-two years)

It seems that the expansion is currently downloading... Is this right or was there just an update?

Nice. Now I have something to do in my reactor design class.

Disclaimer: Stardock is not responsible for any nuclear disaters that may result from poor attention paid in class while playing the game.  Any meltdowns, or uncontrolled chain reactions within fissionable materials are solely the responsibility of the reactor designer.

Suh-Weet! I was going to join the chat and ask when we could download it, but this takes care of that.

I hate to sound stupid, but how exactly do you use that chat program? I've followed the instructions, including typing /join #galciv, but I'm not sure what to do next.

P.S. I've never used a chat program before, so could you keep that in mind when answering my question?

Once you're in #galciv (you might have to click on the #galciv tab) you just type what you want to say in the entry field at the bottom of the screen and hit enter.  I'll be in there all day if you want to do a dry run.

Once you get that far you should have the #galciv channel on your screen, with a list of the people present on the right side. Just type in the input box at the bottom and hit enter to 'say' something. Things said by others will appear in the main area of the window along with their name. You can change your nickname from the default 'SDC_Guest' to whatever you like by typing '/nick DivineWrath' or whatever you like (no quotes of course).

If anybody still has questions on how to use Stardock Central to chat, then here is a short guide that will walk you through the basics.

Why a copy of the transcript be posted to the web for those of us that miss it?
