UPDATE:  If you can't make it to the developer chat but still want a shot at having your questions asked, you can sign on to our IRC chat and join #chatquestions early.  Just ask your question in the channel and I'll log it, and add it to the potential list for the dev chat Wednesday night!

This Wednesday, February 7th at 4pm PST / 7pm EST / midnight GMT we will be hosting a developer chat to answer questions about the upcoming release of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar, due for release this month.

If you'd like to join us, there are three ways to attend, so pick whichever is easiest for you:

  1. Log on with Stardock Central [Download]
If you have a Stardock.Net account, one of the easiest ways to attend the chat is by using the IRC application built into Stardock Central.  Just fire up SDC and click on the "Chat" link on the left-hand side of the screen.  Click "Connect" and once you're connected type "/join #galciv" (without the quotes) and you're there!

  2. Connect Using Your Favorite IRC Client
For those of you already versed in the arcane arts of Internet Relay Chat, you can join us by connecting to irc.stardock.com and then joining #galciv.

  3. Chat Via Your Web Browser
Your third and final option is to head on over to this webpage:
    http://www.communicationtube.net
Click on the IRC tab in the upper left corner, choose a nickname then type "irc.stardock.com:6667" (again, no quotes) into the HOST:port space and then login.  Once connected, select #GalCiv on the left menu and in a few moments you'll be ready to chat!

We highly recommend either using Stardock Central or a separate IRC Client (such as mIRC for Windows) as they'll allow you to also participate in the chat by submitting questions.

This chat will be driven largely by questions submitted you, the gamer. We'll have a second room setup called #chatquestions where you can ask whatever you want regarding Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar.  This room will be monitored by Yarlen and myself (Zoomba) and we'll pick the best questions asked and post them in #GalCiv for the developers to answer.

We look forward to you joining us this Wednesday in #GalCiv!

NOTE: THERE WILL BE A SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE DEVCHAT!

-it's really that simple. Feel free to try it out now if you want, there are a few of us there right now.

Damn, that's midnight for me .

Although I not a big fan of chat programs, I might make a point of attending. There are several questions I would like to ask, and it includes defending starbases.

actually i don't have any questions about DA.

but i do have a question for Yarlen.

Did you pick that handle based on Yarlen Zey, from Arthur C. Clarke's The City and the Stars?

just kinda curious.

Ahh, such are the secrets of the campaign.

I mean I couldn't go and tell you that we kill off [CENSORED] in the first 5min, now could I?  It's almost as bad as me telling you that [CENSORED] get the [CENSORED] that causes the great [CENSORED].

I wouldn't want to spoil it for you

Heh, good use of the filters Zoomba!

As for the two races that WON'T bite the galactic dust...hell if I know. The sandbox game has all of the same races as before (with the curious change from Altarian Republic to Altarian Resistance - an indicator of the campaign I assume?), so there's no telling what sorts of weirdness the Stardock guys have planned for us!

And me? I'll just be learning 3ds Max and Maya (if the darn thing would run...darn video card/software incompatibility...) so I can make some nice 3d portraits for my races (if not lots of new ship components and ship parts...wonder if we should ask for a tutorial on how to come up with new GCII ship jewelry? After all, I'd want to be consistent with Stardock's stuff...).

Since no one else has asked...
I'd love to listen live to pick up all these glorious gems, but
will there be an audio file posted afterwards, on Stardock or maybe a podcast on iTunes?
I gotta work and won't be able to listen live

Gosh darn it! Would you guys stop rubbing in the fact that we don't have DA yet!

Mid night for me too

Could somebody ask about UI changes for me? Thanks in advance.

It's not going to be an audio developer chat.  It'll be a plain-text IRC chat with all your favorite GalCiv 2 DA devs.  We'll work to have a transcript of the chat posted the day after for anyone who can't make it in.

Audio chat would be fun, but would be really difficult to pull off. Plus, we type a lot faster than we talk.
