From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

It seems like every other day another fantastic review for Dark Avatar hits the web.  Today's glowing review comes from the fine folks over at Gaming Nexus who handed us a 9.7 out of 10!.  Reviewer Tyler Sager put the expansion pack to Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords under the microscope to try and glean from it every possible secret, find every nook and cranny where we might have hidden away new features and functionality.  The tagline for the review is "A perfect expansion pack?  This is pretty damn close."

Tyler is practically gushing with praise for Dark Avatar, going over each of the new features from the visual makeover of the ship models, to the revised tech tree, all the way to the new planetary model to block the old colony-rush tactic.

Here's what the review had to say specifically about the new mega-events

Remember those game-changing events that would occasionally pop up in earlier GalCiv games? When the game was purring along, conquest will in hand, and all of a sudden the Dread Lords would pop out and throw the galaxy into chaos? Well, Dark Avatar gives these "Mega-events" their due. While not always game-shattering, these semi-random events are calculated by the game to make the biggest shake-up possible. Honestly, I really didn’t care for these events before, but they do make for some interesting challenges when they show up. Like most things in Dark Avatar, however, these Mega-events are entirely optional, perfect for those times when a little something different is wanted.

Not a bad bit of praise overall.  Click below to read more of the review.

He doesn't mention why the game doesn't gets a 10. Should do that.
But highest grade that he have ever given to a game?! That's superb!
