MS Takes The Month Off
Published on March 9, 2007 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

For IT managers and systems administrators, the second Tuesday of each month is typically a day to dread.  For a while now, every second Tuesday, Microsoft has released a slew of patches for Windows and Office products, fixing bugs and security holes en-masse.  For anyone who has to test patches prior to deployment, Tuesday usually means you have a lot of work ahead of you.  And sometimes, there are so many changes and updates, you get them certified and published to your enterprise just in time for the next batch to come out.

Last month, twelve patches went out, a pretty hefty number for users and admins to deal with.  So this month, Microsoft is giving everyone a brief break.  This month, there will be no security patches, just a handful of non-critical application and OS updates.  So if you don't want to, this month you won't have to install anything.

Oh, goodie.  Last month my wife's machine barfed over the updates..... locked up and would not shutdown without power switch, and MS update page would freeze.

Finally, 2 days ago it resolved itself and is back to normal.

My other 2 XP Pro machines had no issues....but either way it'll be a break....

Never heard of anything so dumb in my life! Ya it's tough installing a patch on my computer. Pressing a button is complicated. Thank Christ that MS has given us all a break for 1 month. Now I can go on holidays

Whoah... interesting, to say the least.  They have *just* released a NEW operating system, and there are NO patches for it after a month?

CerebroJD is impressed!
