Hey, one of those looks awfully familiar...

Everyone here has heard a lot about Windows DreamScene, the extra for Windows Vista Ultimate users that lets you play pre-rendered video as your desktop background.  It was one of the most anticipated extras after being showcased at CES 2007, and is something Stardock has partnered with Microsoft on to develop content and technology, which resulted in Stardock DeskScapes, an extension to DreamScene that allows more than just static video playback by adding event triggers, and the ability to build and display dynamic content (more on that soon).

As a part of the March patch bunch, Microsoft's Vista Ultimate team put up a pack of four new DreamScene videos for Ultimate users to download through Windows Update.  Included in the pack are:

  • A close-up of some flowers swaying in a breeze
  • Rain falling on puddle on a sidewalk
  • A rushing forest stream
  • An orange plasma that you might find strangely familiar

Remember, if you have Vista Ultimate Edition, DeskScapes is a free extension to the DreamScene extra.  You can get DeskScapes and all sorts of great animated wallpaper content at dream.wincustomize.com

Well, all these work. And they're all mpg's.

Microsoft seems to be giving special treatment to Vista Ultimate Edition users and couldn't care less about the home users. I use Vista Home Premium and I don't get any special wallpaper or animated desktop back grounds. Why can't they give other users of Vista some extras too?

Users of Ultimate have already shelled out the extra bucks ...pony up like we did & you get the content.

...and thats about all I have to add as well.

Pretty ordinary, actually. I liked the orange plasma one.

So far, the ones I've downloaded thru' WinCustomize have been of far better quality.
