Another award for the trophy case...

Gamers' Temple put up their two cents on Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar yesterday, giving it a strong 95% and their Award of Excellence.  Like previous reviews, time and attention is given to the improved graphics, the new spy system, and planetary terrain types, but this one gives a little bit more attention to an aspect of the game that is oddly overlooked; ship building improvements.

Here's what the review has to say about what Dark Avatar adds to the Ship Builder:

Many players of GC2 immediately fell in love with the game’s ship designer. This powerful and easy to use tool gives you the freedom to create an amazing variety of good looking ship models to populate your fleets. If you were one of those people, then you may want to buy Dark Avatar for the ship designer enhancements alone. Not only do you get a plethora of new ship parts, the existing ones have been given a little sprucing up so that your ships will look better than ever. With the Dark Avatar enhancements, you can use the ship designer to create just about any famous ship from your favorite Sci-Fi show or movie or to create an entirely new design more to your liking.

Take a few minutes to head on over to Gamers' Temple to read the full 2-page review.

Congratulations! Heh, trying hard to knock that massive "ideas" thread of the front page aren't ya?

No kidding, I think everything was in that thread includding someone wanting the kitchen sink with a purchase of the game.

I think they should add a kitchen sink jewelry piece to the Shipyard.

Sure was a nice game for 30 minutes or so-- until it started locking-up. Now, I'm still playing because it is great fun, but i've had to dial back the graphics to the point it is just butt-ugly. No such problem with any other game including Dread Lords, Fear, and Darkstar One. This is a problem. So you get an 80. All patches installed, etc. I am not an idiot.

let me guess - you have VISTA?

Nope. XP. Makes no sense to me that GCII:DA would behave so when far more graphic intense stuff works fine. Some folks have suggested that I put another fan in my case to cool my graphics card. If I have to do that to get a game to work, then I need another game! Why would textures cause my graphics card to melt down? Hmmm. I think something else is causing the lock-ups myself, not the usual suspects.

Even with the problems-- it is worth the effort!!
