Now with progress bars and timers!
Published on April 2, 2007 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Ever since we launched Dream.WinCustomize.com earlier this year, we've been working on improvements to our upload system to handle large file sizes.  In the past, users would just have clicked the submit button, waited and hoped it all worked.  There was no display of upload progress, and for users with exceptionally large files to upload, often the browser would timeout.  Well, we've made some steps to alleviate those problems.  Now, there is an upload script in testing that shows a progress bar indicating how much of the file has been uploaded, the current transfer speed, as well as a time-left and time-elapsed counter.  Improved error messages have also been added to help troubleshoot upload issues.

Net Dev is really close to signing off on the new upload script as "done" and have it be the main method people use to upload content, but before that happens, we need a week or two of heavy testing/usage to make sure we catch and iron out all the kinks.  That's where you come in.

For the next few weeks, when you find yourself looking to upload something to the galleries, please use this link:

Also, post any feedback or issues you may encounter with it to the comments section below.

"Your skin has failed to upload. Error code: UploadDetails"

This is what I got when I tried to upload my last wall. I had to go back to the old upload page to get it through.

Same here when I tried to upload my last blind (4-12), had to use the old upload page to get it through. On 4-13, I had to do a minor change to the description text....went through fine with the new upload page. Using XP2 and IE6.

Me too. I tried to upload WB and got that message so I clicked the link for the old page, it said OK. Then I uploaded a SMX and a CursorXP on the old page..OK, OK.
The cursors and the SMX are in the gallery the WB never showed.

Lately the last few i tried failed , had to revert back
to the old way - now it's wasting to much of my time
to keep trying and failing , don't want to use it any more
till it gets fixed !!!

Two rainies I tried to upload failed with the same error code. At first I thought it was the skin but using the old page it worked perfectly. I saw a dialogue for about five seconds but no progress bar after that on both occasions. This about three or four days ago...maybe longer.

Plus, the skin I have been working on for over a year is lost in space.

Dean, I tried earlier to upload the AeroSky Winstep theme which uses the brand new Winstep .xtreme file format and, after getting the progress bars, etc, the upload failed complaining of a wrong file type. This was using upload2.aspx. With upload.aspx the .xtreme file extension was accepted and I was able to upload the theme normally.

Is it possible to allow the Winstep gallery to accept BOTH .zip and .xtreme file types when using the new upload manager, please?

Thanks,

Jorge Coelho

We updated the upload2.aspx page this morning.  Hopefully the changes we made will take care of the issue where people are seeing Error Code: UploadDetails.

As for allowing other file types, it is not my decision.  For now, you will have to zip up your files if that is the file extension required.

We noticed after our update this morning that people were still running into the Error Code: UploadDetails error.  We put up a new build this afternoon and will be monitoring it to make sure that the issues are taken care of.

This morning I updated a widget and when I did , the new upload system kicked in for the first time in awhile. Today the update went much faster than the old upload link. Only thing Im wondering is...
The Thumbnail Preview pic Im seeing in my gallery is the new preview I uploaded with updated skin file this am. But when I click on the skin in mod queue its showing the old preview. I added V2 to the jpeg name so it wouldn't get confusing. Will this upload correctly ..or do I need to reupload it ? The skin was ' BlackZero' Widget.

Fairyy~, looking at the two pages, both screenshots appear to be the same.  There is a certain amount of caching going on, and when a skin is uploaded it can take 5 minutes or more for a screenshot or skin file to propigate to our other sites.  Keep in mind that while WinCustomize, Personal Sites, and the moderation queue look similar they are essentially different websites.

Well, who is it then so I know who I have to talk to? Brad's?

Keep in mind that I'm not asking for anything new: the old system accepts both .zip and .xtreme files.
