From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Serious, goofy, weird, unrelated?

Time for another poll.  Recently I asked who all frequented our Internet Relay Chat server to pick the brains of fellow community members and Stardock employees in real-time.  Here's a quick run-down of the results:

While a handful of you are regulars in #stardock or #wincustomize, it seems the majority of you either rarely stop by, or simply aren't aware that the chat server exists period (the single most popular answer).  For those of you who weren't aware of it, and would like to join in on the fun, Island Dog wrote a nice little how-to earlier this year on how to use Stardock Central to get to our chat server.  You can check it out here.

If you're already familiar with IRC, just fire up your favorite client, point it to irc.stardock.com and join us in #stardock or #wincustomize.  There's almost always someone around if you're looking to chat, or maybe are in search of help with a pesky skinning or application problem.  The regulars don't bite (too hard) so don't be afraid to stop in and say hi!

Now, on to this week's question:

What sort of news do you most enjoy seeing on the front page of WinCustomize?  Every day I try and dig out relevant and interesting stories from the tech press to post and chat about here.  However sometimes it seems I miss the mark on what everyone finds interesting.  I'd like to ask your opinion on the type of news that is the most interesting and relevant to you, the sort of thing that you feel is the most likely to spur some kind of discussion.

Of course our most popular news is typically product-related, like when a new version of WindowBlinds or DesktopX is released, but those stories are few and far between sometimes, and we want to make the front page of WinCustomize a place you want to check on a regular basis.

So, to check the options and cast your vote, click on the poll up above the news section.  Your feedback helps shape what we put on this site.

Good catch, should be fixed now (force a refresh if it's still showing wrong).  I'm still getting used to the wonkiness of Excel 2007.

You should have "all of the above" as a choice in the new poll. I liek anything interesting...don't really care what it is because its here today and old new tomorrow...so bring it on!

We already have that just click on the Gallery button and the newest section is right there....unless you are talking about having the newest on the front page.

I wish I could have voted for more than one option. I like all kinds of news...Techie which sometimes I don't understand lol I try!!! I like internet news as well as the strange stuff. So I think what you have been doing with the news articles are great! I read the news first before I go anywhere else on the site.

I like the quirky stuff, as in the wooden case mod one...

I already have a few sites I visit for the mainstream tech news, and internet stuff I usually find out whilst surfing, so more quirky stuff is good with me.

But I DO read pretty much everything that finds it's way onto the main page here, so it's all good.

I agree that here should have been an all of the above or multiple choice. just because there are no comments does not mean the articles are not read...I always read every news article. I get all my tech info online but will often stop here first to get a sneak peak at some headline news you have posted.
I enjoy the quirky the most, but well rounded news will reach the most people.

Nah you're not the only lazy one and I like the ideas in this newest layout...much more effective IMHO and a whole lot less steps to see the galleries
