From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Help us, help you

So you want to know how to build a WindowBlinds skin, or make a DesktopX gadget huh?  Well, this week there have been a number of great articles written up by the community designed to help teach aspiring skinners and gadget makers learn the tools of the trade.  These articles are a great example of what makes this such an outstanding community to be a part of.  These folks are exactly the sort we should be holding up as prime examples of what makes WinCustomize one of the best skinning sites on the net.

There are two tutorials to point you to, and one great tutorial round-up.

  1. Learning DX Step-By-Step #9 - Wallpaper Changer
Twice in one week!  RomanDA is at it again, this time showing us how to make a gadget that changes your Windows wallpaper.  As always, it takes you from start to finish, with code examples and screenshots to illustrate the entire process.
  2. Creating 'Shell Animations' for SkinStudio Part 2
Life is a Game has worked up another installment of their tutorials on how to make a shell animation within SkinStudio, an element that helps make any WindowBlinds skin complete.  The tutorial comes complete with screenshots and example animations to step you through the process.  If you're an aspiring skinner, this is definitely a tutorial to check out.
  3. WB Tutorial List
Quentin94 has taken the time and effort to compile a great list of previously written tutorials for making WindowBlinds skins.  Linked articles cover start panels, taskbars, shell animations, close buttons and more.  These links will help take you through many of the major components of a full-featured WindowBlinds skin.

Remember, if you have the know-how to make a skin, and icon, a gadget or any other customization element, one of the greatest contributions you can make to the community is to share your knowledge by writing up what you know as a tutorial or how-to guide.  It's much easier to point questions to a single article than it is to answer them individually over and over again.  Also, think back to when you were learning.  How much would you have benefited from a veteran's knowledge and experience?
