From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Grass sways lazily in the breeze in these three beautifully rendered animated desktops for Stardock DeskScapes.

Blissful Dream is an updated package of animated wallpapers from Stardock Design. This is the second of our triggered dreams, where your wallpaper changes automatically based on the time of day. Included in the package are:

  • Blissful Sunrise/Sunset - The animated wallpaper shown off by Microsoft at various press events leading up to the release of Windows Vista, and is the first premium Dream from Stardock Design. (Plays starting at 6am and 6pm)
  • Blissful Day Dream - The same beautifully rendered scene in full mid-day splendor. (Plays from 8am until 6pm)
  • Blissful Night - Darkness falls across your desktop as night falls outside your window. A scene of summer night provides the perfect background to your PC as the day draws to a close. (Plays from 8pm until 6am)

Of course, if you won't want to have them rotate through the day, you can manually pick your favorite of the three from the "Choose a Specific Video" link in the desktop background dialog.

The new pack is available for just $8.95 for all three Dreams.  If you've previously purchased Blissful Dream, this updated packaged is available to you free of charge!  Just use the download link you were originally sent, or have it resent to you by going to the Stardock Support page and having your registration information re-emailed to you.

Requires:Stardock DeskScapes 1.01 or later and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition with DreamScene installed.

You guys are awesome. Seriously.

Would it be possible for high-end computers for you guys to package a ray-tracer or something so the user could select the viewing angle they want? Just an idea..

Also.. a more realistic idea... maybe some tie-in to a weather service so that you can enter your zip and have the sunrise/set scene play when your local sunrise/set is.

That wouldn't really work since you're not getting a real-time 3D scene on your desktop.  Blissful Dream is a set of three pre-rendered videos designed to loop seamlessly.  For doing the POV switching, it would have to be a 100% 3D scene rendered on your desktop in real-time.

And as dynamic dreams become more robust, wouldn't be surprised to see the weather and location-based dreams come out.  I personally think it'd be really cool for the times to sync up like that.

I meant to have users pick their view, and then render it... I know it'll never happen, but one can dream..

Anyone know how to just use the Blissful Sunrise/Sunset only? I don't like the Daydream and Blissful night. The Sunrise/Sunset should be listed seperately for those who don't like the two new scenes or have an easy way to turn them off.
