From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Time for another really cool hardware modification story.  The last one we looked at was a pretty good looking wooden case mod that had a sort of Japanese art style to it.  To me it was probably one of the more elegant modifications I've ever seen.  Today, we head in the other direction, towards something really over-the-top and flashy.  The link was passed to me by ZubaZ this morning and it seemed like a cool mod to share with you folks.

The Steampunk LCD Monitor Mod.

This is a really cool looking mod as it takes a standard, boring looking LCD and turns it into something that's a mix between Victorian and 1900s industrial in style.  Heavy use of brass in both color and construction combined with a faux marble base make this monitor definitely stand out.  The page shows how the maker did certain difficult aspects of the construction, along with a few videos illustrating parts of the process.  It's pretty cool and worth checking out when you have time.  It goes great with the creators' steampunk keyboard.

This looks great. Respect to the artist!

I've never done any modifing myself except sticking a sticker on the lid of my laptop. It wasn't as easy it looks. Especially as the speakers are sticking out a bit.
