From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Bubblewrap is one of the greatest things ever invented.  It's functional in how it protects your fragile items in shipping, but it's also fun to pop the little bubbles when its use is done.  There are few things more satisfying than getting a nice big sheet of bubblewrap with the big bubbles and to sit there popping each and every one of them.  It's great for stress relief.  However, to get bubblewrap you usually have to order some expensive piece of gadgetry, since it feels silly to go to a packaging store just to buy bubblewrap to pop.

Well, if you're a bubble popping addict, Bandai Asovision has created possibly the weirdest gadget I've seen; The PunchiPunchi.  It's a little plastic pad with 8 buttons on it that make bubble-popping sounds when you press them.  It has bonus features like playing special non-popping sounds every 100th pop.  I have no idea who dreamed up such a weird gizmo, or even who will buy it.  On the plus side, it's said that the PunchiPunchi comes with a liberal amount of real bubblewrap when shipped.

My first DX gadget using an embedded file was for virtual bubble wrap.  The author wouldn't give me permission to reseal it publicly . .  but I loved it!

You can pop at her site here: http://www.virtual-bubblewrap.com/popnow.shtml

And my widget:

you made that?! Cool!

I like bubblewrap, but I don't buy it to pop it. If there's some laying around, sure, I'll pop it.

All I did was build a DX "frame" and embed the swf file into it.  Since it's not making a call to the internet, it's a stand-alone toy.

wow, deja vu, yesterday I was sifting through some old backup files from a couple years ago. Found an old Favorites folder, and a link to that bubble-wrap website.   I re-bookmarked the site, and now I see it here on this forum!

Until your neighbour calls in the police....fearful it's multiple gun shots and worried about losing a few windows, etc. Explaining it to the cops could prove embarrassing/difficult.

So glad mine have grown, left home and now have to contend with their own kids fighting over the bubble-wrap. I used to tell mine: "Go on, fight, I hate peace....and if you cause any injuries to one another, the medical bills will come out of your pocket money."

So I assume you are a virtual bubble wrap supporter.

Only if it's installed on two (or more) computers....to prevent abovementioned fights.
