From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Even though the product isn't out of beta yet, reviews have started to roll out from the tech enthusiast community.  Yesterday, ExtremeTech's Loyd Case took a peek at the latest beta of TweakVista, Stardock's tool for squeezing every last ounce of performance out of your Windows Vista installation.

It's a fairly detailed review, taking a look at both the application's current strengths (great interface, easy access to a lot of hidden information) as well as a few weaknesses (needs more in-depth information).  Overall, they gave the beta version a 8/10 and an "ExtremeTech Approved" seal.  Throughout the review they make sure to be clear the application is still in testing, so issues they noticed could be addressed before final release later this year.

If you're curious about the program and want to read up on it a bit, this review is a great introduction to TweakVista from an outside point of view.

It takes the exact same amount of clicks to get into display properties... In Vista its once on the desktop and then once on display settings, in XP once on the desktop and then once on the display settings tab.

It's just as easy to get the Task Manager open, either right click on the taskbar or press crtl-shift-esc.

Since he apparently doesn't know much about Vista how can I know if this guy has any idea about the abilities of TweakVista. Having such uninformed anti-vista dribble on the opening page of the article made me not want to read any furter.

As for TweakVista itself I have to agree with the post Xepol made in reply to that review, most people will fall into one of two catagories :

1. You know where to get all these easily accessible settings in Vista, and don't need to pay to flip these switches.

2. You don't know where these settings are because you don't need to know, nor would changing these settings enhance your experience - they are advanced settings for advanced users, and you aren't an advanaced user who needs those settings OR this software.

I like the program and I'm an advanced user, but there are some bugs in it. I've yet to be able to run the program without it spiking my cpu to a 100%. I've tried it on 3 machines already, but again it's beta. So we'll see what happens when the final version hits.

But yes I too agree that most people can figure out where these things are in vista if they are willing to look, but tweakvista just puts it right out in the open, nice nice!

Just a little addition here, is anyone else having 100% cpu issues with this program?? I know it's beta, I'm not jumping on anyones case. Just curious is all.. thx!
