From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
I have nothing witty to say in this space....

Welcome back skinning fans to another fun-filled and exciting week here at WinCustomize.com!  Last week we delved the mysteries of the collective community's brain to try and find out what the most popular overall style of skin is.  Despite providing the nebulous "other" option to cover everything I forgot to list out, one style came out on-top by a large margin.  It would seem that on the whole, you folks are most into the "Bright & Clean" style of skin.  Here's a full breakdown of the results:

This week we turn from the world of content to that of skinning technology.  Last week we released the first beta build of WindowBlinds 6 to Object Desktop subscribers.  Version 6 represents a pretty significant step forward in skinning tech with the addition of complex animations to many elements of the UI (see the included Molten skin and the animated dragon on the Start Menu) and the addition of several "Vista" effects for Windows XP users.  Coupled with the upcoming release of SkinStudio 6, it's a pretty exciting time for skinning tech.

So this week's poll is about your impressions of the beta so far.   We'd like to know what sort of general reception this early version is receiving from the community.  Do you love it?  Hate it?  Have feelings somewhere in between?  Let us know in the webpoll by clicking the link below.

I really like the ability to add the blur on window borders to mimic the vista blur on xp systems.

I also love that animated dragon on the start menu. Looks fantastic.

i was disappointed... i thought it be able to bring the Vista transparency and what not to "non-Aero" Vista's, since it can bring it to XP.

I haven't been using WB all that long, only 3 yrs, so it's hard for me to stay it's the best ever. It very well maybe, I just don't have enough time hear to compare it againts other updates of WB. I will say that all the little touchs that were added have all been improvements as far as I can see. I'm running XP. Good work folks.

TLK1969 - Please contact support@stardock.com as they will be able to assist you in resolving this issue. Several users have given you clear instructions on how to download WindowBlinds 6 if your current ObjectDesktop subscription has not expired.

thank you for your prompt, if slightly patronizing, response, Yanker. . . I was asking how to subscribe--if even possibe--without having to purchase the software again. I actually grasped the technical issues as to the download process, but that was not my question.

But, again, Yanker, thank you.

Well, I'm not sure if this is the correct format/forum for this question but it would be really nice to get an answer other than when it's ready for when Stardock plans on supporting WB6 for us Vista 64 bit-ers. I realize it's beta, it's almost always in a some form of beta state but just a general time frame would be appreciated.

Wet Monkey, I too am in that situation. I have been told that it will be 2 to 3 weeks before a build of WB6 tat supoorts Vista64 will be available. The person who told me definitely knows what he is talking about so I expect to be using it very soon.

on another note....... LOL @ Yanker

On XP here. For the most part, I'm pleased with the additional capabilities & user-control features in the beta. Menu painting issues and some individual image rendering oddities are a major drawback, however, as neither were issues with 5.49. I anticipate they will eventually be fixed, but it seems something always gets broken a little with each move forward.

Up to yesterday, 8/7, I was not able to install WB6. But, a new build for WB6 & the new SkinStudio beta were released on 8/7, so I said, "What the hey" and gave it another shot. Both WB6 and SkinStudio installed slicker than greased owl doo-doo! Whatever was tweaked in the new build sure solved my problem.

WB6 seems much smoother and loads skins with less effort. I'm playing around with the new features and so-far-so-good ... really nice improvements over WB5.
