We can beat iTunes this time! Honest!
Published on August 21, 2007 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

It seems like every other day there's some new music download service crawling out of the woodwork.  Today it's from a few big names in the music and data world; MTV, Real Networks and Verizon Wireless.

These media heavyweights are joining forces in an attempt to become the biggest name in the integrated music services arena, looking to take on Apple's iTunes platform.  MTV and Real will be creating a spin-off company for this effort called Rhapsody America, run by the man behind the Urge platform.

The announcement is interesting because each of the three represent key aspects of a successful online media platform; content (MTV), software (Real) and distribution channels (Verizon).

No word yet on price or availability.

MTV and content ? What ? Crazy Frog and Dull Elk ringtones ? Over here in Germany You can't watch any music channels anymore, they should rename themselves to 'Ringtone-Channel'...

Last time I had anything to do with Real it was a nightmare. That software will never be on my system if I have anything to say about it. And Verizon is so big it will take them 5 years just to figure out whether or not they to charge you $15 for the setup fee or $50 and then they'll double-bill you anyway.

Verizon...loved the service...billing was a nightmare.
Real...from Satan...nasty as AOL...if I need to play a real file I use real alternative to play them with media player classic.
