A mixed reaction

With the release of DeskScapes 2.0 beta for Object Desktop subscribers, many Vista users for the first time have access to Animated & Dynamic Wallpapers that were previously only available to Vista Ultimate users.  Keeping in mind that it is a beta, I asked what everyone's general impressions of the 2.0 version were.  Here are the results:

While a fair number of you (39%) liked or loved it, fully a third of you really weren't happy with the first beta release.  To those who are disappointed with it, we would love to hear why (but keep in mind that it is beta software and not fully tested/developed).  Your feedback will help us improve the software for the final release next month.

Wow!  28% hated it.  Crazy.

I had some codec problems but those were due to using Vista Business.
Also some dreams used more resources . . but that's something I'm willing to trade sometimes.

Such a cool app.
Bound to be a few teething problems with the beta but 28% hating it...I wonder if they actually like anything or maybe they just go negative on all polls to be "cool".

It slows down my system too much (which, granted, could be the GeForce Go 6150 chip). Nonetheless, makes using it impractical for me currently.

cpu usage seems to be more than fine
no slowing down , but from time to time
when selecting a new one internet explorer
crashes and then resets itself ... using
home premium Vista , anyone else having this
problem with internet explorer crashing ????

Missed that one,I meant to say it only happens when switching between dreams, thanks Zubaz.

No problems here (Vista home premium with 2Go Ram and a onboard graphic card Intel (the first one to support aero))
My only suggestion could be to make an interface more clean like Logonvista or cursorfx.
Anyway that's a cool job thanks you so much definitively loving it

Agreed, a consistant look would rock.  Also, in another post I suggested that DeskScapes move the dreams from wherever they are downloaded to (like the default desktop in FF) to the dream directory (D:\Documents and Settings\[user_name\Documents\Stardock\Dreams)

On a related note . . what's the reason for many ODNT apps to store skins in the user directory but others in the public?

I noticed this too.My CursorFX and Sound Packager stuff goes to my users/public/public documents folder yet my Dreams,Object Dock library (and another)Sound Packager folder are in my documents folder.
Would be nice to see them consolidated to one location.
And what Zubaz said too,I agree it would be good if Dreams were copied to the appropriate directory upon install,as happens with CursorFX themes.

I have a problem with my dreams pausing and never resuming after full screen with 2.0 also most of them have strange resolutions when using the internal player I really dont care for it! If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!
on Jan 28, 2008
I keep seeing this "internal player" mentioned,I have Vista Home Premium with DeskScapes installed, can I choose between internal and external players and if so,how?

Ok, I have tried it and for the most part it is ok.

But there is still the one part that I can't stand. It won't truly support mulitple monitors.

I have two monitors each with a res of 1280*1024 for a full res of 2560*1024. So let's say with the new master dream 'edge of eternity' I would get two of them. One on each screen, rather than it being spanned over the entire desktop as one image. Sure I can use the controls to widen it out, but then it is either centered, cropped, etc...

If it can be powerful enough to have triggered dreams that can change, that can tell how powerful your cpu/gpu is, then why can't it change the video res. and span it across my entire desktop as one image.

I think as faster hardware becomes common, it will take off more. On my overclocked quad core with 8800, it only uses max 3% cpu and it doesn't change system performance at all.
