From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

When: Sunday February 17th, 8pm EST - Monday February 18th 9am EST

This weekend we will be upgrading the database that powers Stardock's forums & articles system.  This upgrade will impact every site across the Stardock Network.  During the upgrade, you will not be able to post threads, comments, or blogs.  The database will be locked during the maintenance window to prevent data loss.

You will be able to read any content posted prior to the 8pm lock.  You will not be able to post anything new.

Over the course of the upgrade, sites will be switched over one by one to test the changes.  When this happens, you may be able to briefly post content again, however know that anything posted during the maintenance window may be lost.  We will make a post on every site when the maintenance is complete and you can post again.

This upgrade is rather extensive, for a period of time after, certain forum functionality will be unavailable.  Specifically, the following features will be disabled.  We will be tackling each item, restoring them one by one over the next several weeks.

  • Watchlist
  • Watch Post
  • Email Post
  • Post Icons (read, new, new reply)
  • Advanced Search
  • Honorifics
  • Blog links on forum post subject lines. ala. "by JoeUser on Joe's Blog"
  • Forum Summary Page
  • Stardock Central Forum List
  • Rating/Reporting of posts and replies.
  • Print Mode
  • Essential Articles
  • Articles Awards

We will post reminders of this down time every day, and right before we lock the database for work.  If you have any questions regarding this upgrade, please email me at mikec@stardock.com.

We appreciate your patience as we do this essential maintenance work.

Thank you!  Stardock and I have a knack for being in sync.  When I am out of town, that is when you do maintenance (or recover from a crash).

I'm curious to know if this is in part related to the Joeuser 2 website that was mentioned here before.

It's the foundation required for JU2, but it's also a much needed upgrade to the entire network.
