From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
... and then paste it onto JoeUser

This is a public service announcement for everyone who uses Microsoft Word, Frontpage, Expression or some other separate WYSIWYG editor to write your blog posts and then paste them onto JoeUser:

Don't do it.

These tools do their own special formatting, and all a lot of junk tags that don't play nice with the site (they didn't play nice with the old site either, but you didn't always notice since we weren't doing half the things we're trying to do on the new site.

The extra formatting breaks JoeUser, breaks our preview code, and will prevent us from featuring your work on the homepage of the site.  Programs like notepad, wordpad, Windows Live Writer etc will not insert the garbage code.  If you're not going to just type directly into the editor, we suggest programs like that to prepare your post before submitting.

Of course, you can continue to post like you always have, we won't block the articles or anything, just know that we won't be able to feature any article that has bad/broken html in it.

This concludes the public service announcement.

Oh...so that's why it's been acting a little weird.

Oh well, the only things I ever copy and paste are my poems or writings...and those things never get featured anyway.

What is this thing anyhow? StyleWriter. Kinda slick but I am seeing a lag when bacspacing. Then it's gone. Ok, it only lags on single backspaces not when you hold the backspace key down. Couldn't get this to work in FF last night but it's working right now. See ya.

We're looking into the editor lag issues.

Looks at his copy of Expression.

All right, we got the read/unread post markers back, the My Replies page is working again, now we just got to get the function that would take you to the last read comment back.  (Maybe it is and I just haven't noticed it yet.)

Once the editor lag is fixed, we'll be doing okay.
