From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands

Since we've been around for seven years, we've seen a lot of people come and go from the userlists.  As I've said, in that time we've seen several million folks stop by long enough to create an account with us.  In those years, the composition of the community has changed greatly.  A lot of the prominent faces around today weren't here back in 2001, and a lot of the folks from 2001 have since moved on to other things.

So while everyone knows the general story and history of WinCustomize, I'd like to hear a little bit more from all of you.  When did you join the site?  How did you find us?  What brought you to the world of skinning?  Share a bit of your history as it relates to WC with the rest of the community.

For me it started with Windows 95. In nosing around that OS I found out that I could change things like fonts, colors, sounds, wallpapers, etc. That was when the custo bug bit. From do-it-yourself, I moved on to Desktop Architect and fell in love with desktop themes. One late evening while looking for a new wallpaper to slap on my desktop, a link led me here to the Wallpaper gallery. After snagging a few cool walls, I explored the rest of the site, and as they say, the rest is history. HAD to join when I had reach my download limit (Dec 2002). From there I bought an ODNet subscription and haven't looked back since. [Raises a galss in toast) Here's to another 7 years of coolness!

I joined in Feb. 2002 after Purchasing WB and then OD a few weeks later. I found Windowblinds while searching for something else - curiously, I can't remember what I was searching for now...
Six years and countless downloads later, I don't know how I ever stood plain old windows!!! Thanx WC and all you great (and soon to be great) skinners for all your wonderful work! BTW I started my WB journey on Win98 and now am trying my darndest to tame Vista    WC makes it all bearable!

July 2001. Think I was searching for custom icons originally, stumbled across WB & it was all over. Been trying to be a decent part-time skinner ever since. Can't learn it fast enough, though - about the time I get things figured out, a new version or OS comes out & I feel like I'm starting all over again. Ah, such sweet agony.

For me it all stared with changing my cusor and discovered this site. I then wanted to change my gui, found a trial version of wb and got hooked. In Dec 2005 I purchased OD; and a week later became a member of WC. Thats how I found my new home; I can't live without you guys now.

It was (I had to check my profile) September '02..I was tired of the standard luna variants in xp, and thought "there must be a way to change it.." Some quick googling landed me at Windowblinds website, which sent me here. The rest is.. history? I used the trial version for about 6 months until I convinced my mother (I was 14 at the time) the money was well-worth it, and I've been an OD subscriber ever since. I've been largely out of the community the past few years..but with the new version of SkinStudio, I've been thinking of coming back with a couple of Windowblinds skins I've had on the perpetual back burner.

It was late 2007 for me. Actually, the movie Live Free or Die Hard got me to Stardock/Wincustomize. I saw the alienware gear for the first time. That lead to their download page, which lead to Stardock.

I guess I fell "victim" to product placement. I won't complain though!

I joined the site when I first heard about it on the skinz.org forums (when the site opened I guess). Skinz.org was imploding and this was the site most people were making the move to. I actually scattered myself on many a skin site and over the years let my accounts fade away on most sites. Sonique was what first got me into skinning. That and MPFree. Oh the skinnable applications that have died over the years.

Cursors XP Plus was the first application I bought and 2 years ago I browsed the CursorXP gallery every so often, only 6 months ago Googling for "perspective backgrounds" I found the messiah1 gallery... I spent for some days my spare time on it... I started to upload my skins and Wincustomize became my everyday site !!
