Wide load coming through!

Last week, I asked if you used a standard size screen resolution (4:3, 5:4) or a widescreen one (16:9, 16:10) on your main PC.  The results are surprising to say the least.  While my Google Analytics give me accurate numbers on what our overall userbase runs, these polls are great for learning what our core group of users have.

According to the poll, fully 3/4ths of you (74%) run a widescreen resolution.  This is in contrast to the analytics data which shows that 30% of our total users are still at 1024x768.  The most used widescreen resolution is 1280x800 at roughly 15%.  Overall, widescreen resolutions only account for 37% of our overall traffic.  It's interesting to see that our core users are so far off what the overall numbers are.

Will these results influence how you skin?

I thought this was odd too. Widescreen desktop monitors must be a lot more popular than I thought. I personally don't particularly care for the widescreen on my laptop. I much prefer the standard resolution.

I would say that its the wide screen user that answer the poll questions and are probably the ones that post on the forums the most.

I use standard (and a very nice one thanks to member jamespaulp) but would happily provide shipping info for anyone who wants to send me a widescreen to "test".

The statistics are taken from different samples of users. Therefore the results are not logical

I would agree that the 30% at 1024x768 are not reflective of the core community.....you just can't properly feed a serious customization addiction at 1024x768. Maybe a majority of that 30% is using multiple monitors.......

I am running 1680x1050 so I skin for widescreen.
I normally choose 1440x900 or 1680x1050 for the Dreams I do.
I have gone higher but they seem to tax my CPU more than I like.

Are the statistics taken from every users who visit the site, or only users who login or download content? The numbers could be skewed if your counting users sent over from google instead of users who are here to do skinning.

The results make sense, if you go out shopping for a montior at, say, Best Buy, you'll find very few 4:3 or 5:4 monitors. Heck, even they're selling 17" widescreens (as standard on many machines) even when the 5:4 17" and 5:4 19" have more pixels

Widescreen period.

Possibly many widescreen users run both.....I still have my 19"...but chose to vote widescreen as my preferred.....great having dual monitors.....

personally, I use both. I use 3 different PC's, one for work, one for home, and my laptop, and all 3 have different resolutions. My home machine and laptop run widescreen, at 1440 x 900 and 1280 x 800 respectively, whereas my work machine runs at 1280 x 1024, but its the one that I most regularly check Wincustomise on (mainly as its stuck with XP and the other machines run Vista, so I'm anxious for anything to make it look / run better ) Next time, maybe an 'I use both' option might be worthwhile ^^

1680x1050 dual-monitor FTW!

I have a laptop and a desktop. I find that I use the desktop less and less because the laptop is almost always within reach. 1440X900 is very important to me. Sadly many wallpapers and some skins are not made for laptops.
