Sounds & DreamScenes
Published on April 23, 2008 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

Turns out that Microsoft hasn't completely forgotten Windows Vista Ultimate users.  Released with no fanfare or press, you can now grab a soundpack with two new system sound schemes for Vista, and a package of DreamScenes from Windows Update.

Could this mean that the Ultimate Extras program is back from the dead?

More likely they found these sitting on the shelves in the closet and said......................oops.

I wish I could see the dreams in action so I could say "the ones here are better"

Yeah, released with no fanfare. That says it all. Their actions show 'guilt' for not keeping to their promises to Ultimate users and does not reflect well on the Vista product which is destined for the OS garbage landfill site

One is water droping off the end of a leaf. The chroma is cranked up on it and the sun reflects in a star pattern off the drops. The loop is ok on it but the drop reappears too quickly for my taste. I say a 5 out of 10 for a score.

Another is ice melting as a steady drop from a cube. The loop is well done. Camera shakes a little on this one which could have been fixed by motion tracking in After Effects. The camera shake deducts from the score...4 out of 10.

Lastly, autumn leaves on a tree branch. This one is ok, pehaps the best of the bunch. 6 out of 10

All in all, they are not bad and a good addition to anyones Dream collection. How do they compair to the ones on Wincustomize...I would have to say ours are better but what would you expect me to say.

I could be wrong but I don't remember any fanfare when they released the other Extras.

The camera shacking is just path-e-tech can MS not afford a tripod. As for the sounds they are probably better than the standard Vista sounds but to call them an extra is pretty week and they'll be all over the net in no time - didn't previous versions of Windows come with multiple sound schemes anyway. You've got to admit Microsoft have balls, they get 18 months of users saying Extras was a complete frak up then they generously hand out some poor quality video files and a few waves.....

The whole thing =BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Cmon Microsoft, u can do better than this........

I spoke with a Microsoft tech two days before the release. He informed me that there are currently 20 dream clips available. Why they are not making them available or not providing at least one with audio is beyond me.

Except for the additional features that Home Premium doesn't have that people actually bought Ultimate for.
