A fantastic community resource
Published on April 29, 2008 By Zoomba In GalCiv II News

I-Mod Productions, one of the top community sites for Galactic Civilizations II mods and modding recently launched a brand new modding wiki.  The goal of the I-Mod Wiki is to create a central knowledgebase for modders of virtually any game to come and share their knowledge, or benefit from the knowledge and experience of others.

To start things off with a bang, they've launched the wiki with a huge modding guide for Galactic Civilizations II, with contributions from the I-Mod development team.

Here are a few of the main topics covered in the modding guide:

  • Importing Ship Models
  • Adding a ship to GalCiv2
  • Editing the User Interface
  • Converting video for use in GalCiv2

There's also a handy XML reference sheet for folks looking to hack apart the text files on their own.

Since this is, after all, a wiki you can join in and add to the guide with your own knowledge and experience.  The more people that contribute to the guide, the better it will be.

Thanks to Terraner05 and his team for the hard work on this great community resource!

Finally they get some real recognition! I think that some of the other modders, especially ones hosted by I-Mod deserve some recognition too!....like me

Great! Thank you to the I-Mod team for starting this. The .XML descriptions alone are worth the price of admission.

clicking on the provided link:

http://wiki.i-mod-productions.com/

just gives me the following in Firefox:

"PHP has encountered an Access Violation at 02416E21"

It works fine in IE, though. If I cut the resulting URL from IE's address bar:

http://wiki.i-mod-productions.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

and paste it into Firefox's, it works, fine.

Strange as its working fine for me...

Weird. I double-checked with Firefox, and it still failed. I then copied the link directly from the provided shortcut and pasted it in (all in Firefox). It worked fine. Now, clicking on the original link works, too. Gremlins.

I might have some time to work on the wiki. The two projects I'm working on right now is:
A) To try to see what I can break in terms of modding (to see what works... and what to complain about).
To create a custom civ of the same quality as the other 12 default civs.

I might be able to write something about both.

By the way, to get started, do I need to be an I-Mod member to write to the wiki?
