From technology to politics to video games; these are the random thoughts of a geek with too much time on his hands
Duh ;-)
Published on April 1, 2008 By Zoomba In WinCustomize News

In case you didn't already figure it out, the news stories today were jokes, all meant in good fun.  And on the off-chance there's any confusion left...

  1. We're still WINcustomize.
No Mac or Linux stuff here, no plans for it.  Put down the torches and pitchforks folks
  2. No Apple Dashboard Widgets
There is no plan to add Dashboard widget exporting to DX.  The story and screenshots were 100% fabrication (though Island Dog did make a Dashboard widget version of his Election Countdown DX/sidebar gadget)
  3. No Rickroll Suite
You're safe.  No Rick Astley suites.  We wanted to jump on the rickroll april fools bandwagon there.

Thanks to Hippy for the Rickroll joke, and to Island Dog who put together those great fake DesktopX 4 screenshots and giving me the idea to use his Election Countdown gadget to lend additional authenticity to the joke.  Also thanks to everyone who took the "news" in the spirit it was intended.  I hope most of you got at least a chuckle out of one of the three posts today.

Tomorrow we return you to the safe, boring, serious and 99.9% truthful news you've come to expect from this space.

I would think support for both Mac and *nix could been have an good effect on the community. So I would miss it Birger

Too bad the Mac & *nix is only fantasy ... as I now spend more time using fedora than windows (thanks to M$'s "polished"memory hording version of XP known as Vista). At least Stardock will continue to make windows tolerable for me. This joke should be more like an avenue for Stardock to explore ... expanding their user base. Getting a head start when the reality of Mac OS and *nix creeping in slowly collecting more of the OS market share could never hurt.

I hate April Fools sometimes... I am one of those fools

I think it was pretty obvious from the start.

I've come to the conclusion that any information that pops up on April Fools is false unless supported later on in the month.

Didn't fall for the Mac Support simply because you guys ALWAYS stated that "there will be no support for Mac, ever". While I always enjoyed and supported (yes, I am a paid member of Wincustomize as well as a paid customer of Stardock software) the nifty choice given here, I have to say I still am very much bothered INDEED by your position towards the Mac platform. For many reasons I have computers running MS Vista, Xp and Home Server, Mac OS X Leopard and 3 different Linux bistros (Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSuse). YET, for years now and STILL, such great products from Stardock and all the great works shown here on WinCustomize are BOUND to be Windows EXCLUSIVE. If only you guys and Stardock would talk with someone willing to port yours/their software to those platform, it would be a dream come true for thousands owners of such platforms (Mac OS X and Linux). I guess it will still be a never happening dream.
