Sorry I didn't have this poll up yesterday, but I was a bit busy with a few other things and lost track of the time. But never fear, I have not forgotten you and your weekly polls! This week's poll follows up on Brad's Frog Blog post, specifically the new Object Desktop website . What are your thoughts? Love it? Hate it? Think it's just OK? Vote in the poll, leave your comments below. Results next week.
Last week I asked what part of your UI you change the most often. Was it wallpapers, skins, icons or app-specific stuff like ObjectDock or RightClick? Personally, I figured wallpapers would win out by a wide margin, with skins coming in a distant second. Turns out I was wrong... Skins won out, with wallpapers following very closely behind. Icons and application skins shaved out only a small percentage in terms of frequent changes. With folks changing skins so ...
I don't know about you, but I had a fantastic weekend. Here in frosty Michigan the weather was warm, sunny and generally great. It's almost a shame to be back in the office while it's still so nice outside (high near 70f here today!). But while I'm here, looking longingly out the window, I figured I should share with you some of my favorite uploads from the weekend now gone...
Sometimes I like to go back through the archives of a gallery to see what people were uploading to the site "back in the day" and I'm discovering that, in some cases, that some things were better back in "the good old days". Wallpapers being chief among them. Well, more specifically, the wallpaper gallery back when Nuvem was still on the site. It was Koop who turned me on to Nuvem's wallpapers back when I first joined Stardock two years ago. His work is of such stunning qual...
Another week down, and Island Dog is back once again with his weekly feature on what's cool and great in skinning for the week. This week we have a wide selection of skins ranging from a Xion skin, to OD Backgrounds, a Sidebar Gadget, Wallpaper, DX Theme and more. Give the list a look and see if there's anything that catches your eye.
It's been a while since I featured any individual skinners here on the front page, and I thought it might be time to trot out another one. Today, I'd like to direct you to Nimbin, Apprentice and member of WinCustomize since January 2006. In his over two years with the community, he's taken on a role as one of the more prolific RightClick skinners on the site with nearly 50 RightClick skins submitted since late 2007. He also has contributed a number of BootSkins, Wallpapers and a p...
Sometimes someone makes a gadget that's just so useful and cool that I have to feature it here on the front page. MikeB314 yesterday put up just such a gadget. Sidebar Player is a video player for the Windows Vista Sidebar that lets you load in any online streaming video feed and watch it either on your sidebar directly, or expand it to a larger window on your desktop. Originally made to watch NASA TV, you can sub in any video stream, or play local audio/video files. Probably t...
A new month, a new Desktop Screenshots thread! This month, TheD2JBug kicked things off with his desktop shot showing off Diamond WB, Arzo icons, Position Cursors and a matching Aero dock background. There are also a few screenshots from RickJP and Diafragma. Have a killer shot you want to share? Head on over to the thread and get to posting! You only have 28 days left.
After three years away, long-time skinner APB has returned to WinCustomize with a brand new WindowBlinds skin! Canvas is a very clean, simple WindowBlinds skin built with SkinStudio6 and fully optimized for Windows Vista and WB6 users. If you're looking for a great skin, with soft colors, great highlighting and easy to read buttons, you definitely want to take this skin for a spin. Hopefully this marks APB's triumphant return to WinCustomize!
In case you didn't already figure it out, the news stories today were jokes, all meant in good fun. And on the off-chance there's any confusion left... We're still WINcustomize. No Mac or Linux stuff here, no plans for it. Put down the torches and pitchforks folks No Apple Dashboard Widgets There is no plan to add Dashboard widget exporting to DX. The story and screenshots were 100% fabrication (though Island Dog did make a Dashboard widget version...
2008 April Fools Joke This morning we announced that WinCustomize was expanding to cover the Mac and Linux customization scene . As a follow-up, today we're incredibly happy to also announce the first of our products to support the new cross-platform effort... One of the great new features of DesktopX is the ability to export your widgets/gadgets to run on the Windows Vista Sidebar. While 3.5 is still receiving its finishing touches we've already begun the plannin...
2008 April Fools Joke For seven years, WinCustomize has been the home for Windows GUI Customization. Users from around the globe come here every day to download skins, icons, wallpapers and more to change the way the Windows Operating System look, feels and behaves. While Windows remains the dominant operating system in the world, we've been watching the steady growth of both Apple's OS X and Linux as alternative OS choices. As both have matured and grown in popu...
If you're here, chances are it's because you're looking for some great new skin, icon set, gadget, wallpaper or app skin for your PC. Every day, tens of thousands of people come here and download gigabytes of data in search of their latest skinning fix. My question for you this week is, what specific element do you change the most frequently? Is it your OS Skin? Wallpaper? Icons? Or some application-specific skin like for ObjectDock or RightClick? Result...
Last week, I asked if you used a standard size screen resolution (4:3, 5:4) or a widescreen one (16:9, 16:10) on your main PC. The results are surprising to say the least. While my Google Analytics give me accurate numbers on what our overall userbase runs, these polls are great for learning what our core group of users have. According to the poll, fully 3/4ths of you (74%) run a widescreen resolution. This is in contrast to the analytics data which shows that 30% of our to...
Ahh, that was a nice, restful weekend. Now though, it's back to work for another few days until our next break from the office. And as per usual, I'm here with my picks for the best work uploaded to WinCustomize over the weekend past.
